Hershey Company (HSY) Milton Hershey (1857-1945) established the Lancaster Carmel company in 1886, In 1894 He started with the famous Hershey cocoa Powder, That Amazingly 123 years later it can be found on grocery store shelves and many home around the world. In 1900 chocolate was a luxury that only the wealthy population could afford this special treat. When Milton Build his factory, he made sure it was affordable for all to enjoy. His love for children and family was his driving force to provide housing for his employees, and of course they needed school, stores for shopping. He treated all children as if they were his own, he made sure the school taught orphans and under educated, poor children weather they were part of the Hershey Corporation or not they were now family. He wanted to provide everyone in his community with homes, food, jobs and education. Sadly in 1945 Milton Hershey passed away. He made sure that his entire fortune present and future would care for his company town and his charitable schools. Today I think we tend to forget things of tried and true though the times. Most do not run out to by millions in stock in hoping for that new big high-tech invention that we see and hear so often about. Imagine if we could have bought just 10 shares of Hershey’s when they incorporated in 1927, or more so would have been able to purchase 10 shares after the 1929 after the crash of wall street and started the great depression. According to the Worst Stock Market Crashes, just days before the crash Hershey’s stock was trading for 130 a share for common stock. By August on 1932 it was a $ 55. A share with an all-time low of $43.50 in 1932. From 1929-1939 he funded the “Great Building Campaign” in Hershey, PA during the time of extreme despair of the great depression he put 600 men to work. During this time when jobs were almost unattainable Mr. Hershey took advantage of the extreme low cost of building materials to put people to work building The Hotel Hershey, community center and many more. He saved his town and the family from total poverty. I believe this kind of history is what has made them such an incredible business they have always worked to be successful. At this time, I would like to address the financials about Hershey’s. Their current ratio looks a little low because it is below one. In reading of the financial statements and of the annual
