The author, David Johnson, uses visual imagery to show that practice and preparation leads to success. In the story the author, uses words such as " steadied my breething," to show that he was somewhere nervous but started calming himself down and getting ready to run the play. This evidence proves that the player was feeling nervous, however he had a role to play in the team, so he was trying to calmed himself down by controlling his breathing and focusing on performing the play. This lets the audience know that the player eventhough he is nervous he is showing a great deal of loyalty towards the team. " My legs twitched, my eyes focused..." " I could almost hear coach 's familiar words, " that 's it, fight pressure.
Authors utilize different types of syntax in order to more effectively convey their message. The way words are organized into sentences can change the meaning of a poem so authors, such as Naomi Shihab Nye very carefully format the sentences. For example, the poem, “Daily”, does not follow a typical sentence structure of subject action then object. Instead the structure repeats itself from line 1 to line 18 by stating the object first and then introducing the pronoun subject and the action. In line 1, “These shriveled seeds we plant”, the structure is the object, these shriveled seeds, subject, we, and then the verb, plant.
Poetry is an important part of literature which conveys an author 's ideas across to the reader through the use of descriptive language. Poetry helps an author to express their inner emotions and often incorporates various poetic devices which enriches the text. Poetry gives the reader a different perspective and when read closely, can give the audience a look into the authors imagination. Likewise, poetic devices enhance the writing and can drastically change the mood of the poem, as well as, how the reader interprets the poem. Poetic devices are important in literature because they help to convey a message, add spontaneity to a poem, and give the reader a strong visual.
Largely populated cities are becoming more common throughout the world as the years progress. With numerous people calling cities their homes, it is only fitting that those people find happiness within them. In “the inner city” by Lucille Clifton, the speaker relishes living in the inner city as opposed to uptown. “The City’s Love,” a poem written by Claude McKay, personifies the city and expresses the appreciation the speaker has toward the welcoming arms of the city. Though they both share a sense of admiration toward their dwellings, the speakers’ relationships with their cities differ, which is revealed through the use of syntax, tone, and imagery.
Poets aim to imitate the worst parts of the soul, the parts that are easily excitable and over the top. Poems appeal to the worst parts of the soul and nourish it while diverting energy away from the rational part. Finally, poetry corrupts the best souls. It deceives people into sympathizing with those who grieve excessively, who lust inappropriately, and who laugh at unintelligent humor.
I firmly believe that poetry speaks to the soul. It feeds the need we have for intellectual reading and makes our brain work toward a deeper meaning. So, what is it that makes a good poem? What makes a poem better than another? In my opinion, it not only depends how relatable a poem is but how well the poetic elements are used to give the poem character.
Poetry and music are both used to express emotions through past experiences. Poetry and music have similar concepts. Both poetry and music allow the writer to express their feelings through their poem or lyrics. Poetry and music both have poetic elements in their piece to enhance the theme. Poetry is a type of language that expresses universal themes through one’s feelings, experiences and emotions.

The poems on the internet were sometimes complex, and almost impossible to understand at times. This has led me to believe that I still have much to learn about poetry, and I might take some things
It helps encourage those who are scared of poetry to become more comfortable with it. With the wide range and time periods that the examples offer, most students should be inspired by more than one. I like the fact that this book explains how poetry works and encourages people to try poetry even though they haven’t
Poetry is a very unique type of writing. Poetry allows people to express their emotions in a way they feel comfortable. Every poem has a meaning to it, whether it is talking about food, interest, or a moment in their lives. Readers often mistake the poet as the narrator, although in many cases this is true. Many poets are the narrators and the poems are about their personal life.
With a limited amount of words to tell the story and express the message, poets know exactly what they are writing about. Each word is chosen very
I see poems like riddles, that readers try to figure out, and interpret in their own way. Writers tend to write in code, they write in a way that can be interpreted as many things, and it’s all about how the reader understands it and to me that is so interesting. There are two things specifically to me that help a writer hide the true meaning of the piece, and that is symbolism and figurative language. Symbolism is so important in poetry because it allows the writer to tell a story without outright saying it. Symbolism helps hide the true meaning, however figurative language helps the reader get a better understanding of what the author is describing.
Poems are universal and rhetorical devices. They tell stories that at least one person in the world has experienced whether it was the author or the audience that reads it. The best part about poems is that they can be interpreted in different ways depending on the life experiences of the audience. Society can be put into perspective no matter the era the poem was written. Poems are not only affected by the audience that reads it but also by the type as well as the literary devices that the author uses within the poem.
On the outside and with very little thought it may seem simple to do. Although once one has written it many begin to see many different and complex sides to poetry that cannot be included in a simple statement.
