When parents hold their newborn children in their arms, they often feel an overwhelming sense of responsibility for raising a child that now contributes as a member of society. However, according to Scott Zimmer, author of the article “Mindfulness and Well-being”, the parent and the child are equally responsible “because with awareness comes the power to choose what kind of person one wants to be” (Zimmerman 1). In other words, people who are shown care and appreciation from their parents will tend to follow their parents’ positive example, make wise decisions, and have the ability to accomplish life’s challenges. As proven in the story of Romeo and Juliet, they are both secretly in love with each other, which takes a turn when Juliet’s father forces her to marry someone else, Paris. Friar Lawrence is there to lend a listening ear to Juliet, as she has a hard time dealing with this demand from her father. Juliet goes to the Friar and he counsels her by noting, “Oh, Juliet, I already know about your sad situation. It’s a problem too hard for me to solve. I hear that you must marry this count on Thursday, and that nothing can delay it” (Shakespeare 4.1.49-52). Unfortuanetly, Juliet being forced to marry Paris will result poorly as Friar can tell how she feels; however, it is the opposite of her family's awareness. As a result, it shows that Juliet now feels heard aloud by someone besides her family when Friar knows this is a sad situation she has been put in. He also claims it is “too hard for me”, which then gives Juliet a tragic sense of hopelessness because now it is clear that there is no one that can sincerely help her. The lack of communication between Juliet and Lord Capulet deals with the hatred of Romeo and Juliet’s families, and the way Juliet now reacts after Friar Lawrence speaks to her. In addition, there is still the continuation of Juliet’s great fear to communicate with her father about her true love; instead, this ends with her going to Friar
