50 years and it feels as if time is standing still. It is 50 years but we are still struggling with the same problems: voting rights,mistreatment in the criminal justice system, joblessness and a high rate of unemployment issues. But that is all going to change because as a potential leader of the United States and being familiar with Dr. Martin Luther King works; I would stimulate the citizens of our country to attack these issues by educating them and showing them how these issues have a direct correlation on their lives. Additionally, I would implement a removal of restrictive voting laws, an increase in public schools funding,living minimum wage,and a cut in the Federal Prison System’s budget.
In result of the civil right movement 50 years ago President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Voting rights act of 1965; which prohibits racial discrimination in voting. If one was to work forty hours a week and fifty-two weeks a year they would have 15,080 dollars it is considered below the poverty line for a family of 2. The cost is not factoring in medication, diseases, college, school or any recreational activities.my minimum wage would be twelve dollars and fifty cents, annually it would be 26,000$. Living wage has several benefits such as stabilizing and redefining the middle class. The middle class is slowly adding to the poorer class. While the rich, the top ten percent, keep getting richer and richer. This has been happening for the past thirty years. Incidentally, a share of the nation’s economic growth has been adding to their riches. Finally, experimenting with people and letting them experience living on minimum wage for 6 months, will motivate many people to take a stand once they see how difficult it truly
