Paul Labrador said, “My mom worked at McDonald 's, and she decided she wanted to make more money, so she got into the management program at McDonald 's. And that 's how you move up the chain. It 's not by demanding that minimum wage is raised; it 's by actually acquiring the skills. That 's the way that people get ahead in life.” People need to stop complaining and avoid settling for jobs that only pay minimum wage and actually work towards more sophisticated employment. A minimum wage job is a starting point to a career, not the overall goal. Minimum wage should not be increased because prices will rise, employees may lose their jobs, and people will not have the urgency to achieve a higher level education. Increasing minimum wage will result in higher consumer prices because business owners will be forced to pass the cost of labor onto their customers. Having a higher minimum wage would make buying necessities difficult for people who are unemployed. Some teenagers are forced to obtain a job during school. Prices are already high enough, therefore the common high schooler can barely afford to pay for his or her own gas or the occasional meal. Having a higher minimum wage will encourage people not want to achieve a higher level education. Many people who have little education start off their careers in some type of food industry. If fast food restaurants have a minimum wage of 15 dollars, then there is no point of going to college for four years to earn a job that only pays 18 dollars per hour. People who have a higher education will take the fast food jobs which will force the “un-educated” to not have a job. People are already lazy enough so giving them an excuse to not receive a better education is an awful idea.
