I remember when I was at the age of five, like any other kid at this age I wanted a sibling. I still remember the day when my mom told me that I was going to be a sister and how excited I was because I would finally have someone to play with. My mom was thrilled to know that she was pregnant and as any pregnant women would, my mom would go to her monthly checkups to see how the baby was doing. It was on her third month of pregnancy when she found out that her pregnancy was not normal and that she was experiencing an Ectopic Pregnancy. Many believe that miscarriages are caused by lifestyle related problems. Although the causes of miscarriages are unknown, statistics shows that 50% of miscarriages are caused by health related issues and the other 50% is unknown. However, we can assume that the other 50% can be related to lifestyle problems. For example, the excess in alcohol, drugs and smoking are believed to be some lifestyle problems that are the causes of miscarriages. Drugs, alcohol, and smoking, all increase the risk for a miscarriage. According to Dr. Schiffer, “It’s exposing a fetus to large amounts of these chemicals on a regular basis that can cause miscarriage, because they have a poisonous effect on all those developing cells.” Drugs, alcohol and smoking are poisonous and can have irreversible effects on the development of a baby. Therefore, it is necessary for one personally to take precaution and maintain a healthy lifestyle when pregnant. To decrease the high percentage of miscarriages that are caused by lifestyle related pregnancies one should give up all the bad habits of drinking, smoking and abuse of drugs, instead, you should increase the odds and enjoy a healthy
