“In America, almost one in every three women experienced food insecurity in 2021” ( USDA ERS 2). This shocking statistic directly relates to the negative outlook on women in power in all media sources by degrading them. In a documentary called Miss Representation, Jennifer Siebel Newson details how media negatively portrays women and how it harms them. In the documentary, Jennifer Siebel Newsom successfully exposes the lack of representation of women influencing and holding power in the Media. Newson uses Logos, Pathos, and Ethos to highlight the logic, emotion, credibility, and cinematics of the audience's desire to change and call out the wrongdoings of media. When a claim was made in the documentary, a piece of physical evidence was on the screen as a visual for the viewer. When High School student Ilian expresses her claim that in films, women are only ever the typical stereotypes of women never being the protagonist, and if they happen to be one, “ it’s some drama about getting a guy, its never really about finding your destiny” (Miss Representation 00:25:00-00:25:05). In the background is an example of this is the Movie StarTrek. This particular method of logos lets the reader be successfully persuaded. The evidence used was vital because it shows the proof laid out, and the audience knows the steps of evidence put into these stats. This method was used similarly in other instances in the documentary, but charts were used instead of movies in the background. For example, “Women in their teens, 20s, and ’30s are 39% of the population, yet are 71% of women on TV” (Miss Representation 00:31:18). This statement had a graphic chart on the screen to help the audience visualize the percentages and see the statistics. This helps put the rate into perspective for the viewer. The use of visuals throughout the documentary successfully aids in exposing the toxicity of how media portrays women as
