Whenever the novel discusses Miss Stein, it typically portrays her as being a teacher for Hemingway. Some examples of this include how she tends to give Hemingway her opinions on what to read in order to advance his literature, some words of advice how to live a meaningful life or advice on his current state of writing when she says "it is inaccrochable."
