In the book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Miss Caroline is treated poorly because some of her students think she is picking on a kid that comes from a poor family. It is the first day of first grade for Scout and Miss Caroline is her teacher. Miss Caroline's students do not realize that she is not trying to pick on a student named Walter when she tries to be nice by paying for his lunch but does not know that he would have to pay the money back. “You’re shamin’ him, Miss Caroline. Walter hasn’t got a quarter at home to bring you”.(Lee 28)
The novel The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune, was first published in March 2020. This novel is about love, courage, strength, and learning how to love people from all different walks of life. Linus works for the Department in Charge of Magical Youth (DICOMY), and over this novel, Linus learns who he truly is and how he can accept himself. In the beginning of the novel, Linus is a shy, self-conscious, rule follower who is often being judged and pushed around by his co-workers.
In “Of Mice and Men” by John Steinbeck, Slim is a helpful, trustworthy man who plays an important role. For example, when Lennie and George first meet Slim, Slim is introduced with, “His authority was so great that his word was taken for any subject, be it politics or love”(33). According to this quote, Slim is considered a great advice giver and is very good at solving problems. The quote also shows how smart Slim is being able to solve a problem for any topic.

In the novel “Hate List”, Valerie Leftman is to return to school five months after her boyfriend, Nick shot several fellow classmates in the school cafeteria. Most of the people shot were on a list Valerie and Nick made and called the hate list. A majority of the school community believes that Valerie was aware of Nick’s plan to kill the kids (she wasn’t aware) despite the fact that Valerie saved someone’s life and got shot in the process. In “Hate List”, Valerie and everyone around her must pick up the broken pieces of fear and sadness after the tragedy. This creates a story that is both universal and so unique that it will leave the reader changed on a fundamental level.
Jews that were taken away from their homes were all put in train cars and barely had any room. The train cars had no windows and one door that unlocks from the outside. Many Jews were taken into ghettos and Concentration camps filled with people and slept in bunk beds. Many of the Jews were adults and were separated from their kids because they are adults and everyone was separated by gender. Many of the Jews didn’t get enough food

Elie Wiesel’s character became a brute, because he witnessed children being killed, death everywhere and his loss of faith. Wiesel watched people get hung with no phase of tears. The man she is with keeps pushing her to make a life-changing decision about an abortion and she says, “I realize… Can’t we maybe stop talking?,” (Hemingway 3). Including this issue specifically is bold for Hemingway as it is controversial, yet he crafts it to bring even more attention to the Girl’s rights and intentionally characterizes her with this strong will and independence. She later threatens to scream, demonstrating that the Girl is unafraid to bring attention to this altercation. Hemingway provides the Girl with a voice that many women did not have. The man craves authority and manipulates her by saying, “I think [getting the abortion is] the best thing to do.
When reading this passage I had to look up the word, "Lethal" which means "sufficient to cause death", I also had to look up the word "uttering" that means " make a sound with ones voice". This quote makes me feel very sad and mad because she is trying to help the Jews by warning them and they are beating her and gagging her, That makes me disgusted. I think people didn't believe her because it was pitch black at the time and no one saw anything while she was screaming fire, fire. That is a warning for the Jews to save themselves and try to escape while they can. It is very obvious that the people were scared because they kept telling them to "make her shut up".
I have been on two cruises so far in my life. This has led to me having the opportunity to meet individuals from all over the country. One of the first things I would notice about a person is if they were from the north or the south. Usually, on the occasion someone would talk to me they recognized my southern dialect and that would make them see me as less intelligent. This same idea is exhibited by James Baldwin in his essay where he explains the importance of language and how it can easily affect the way you view someone.

I found this part intriguing. I wanted to know more about his failed marriage so I researched a bit. I learned that Pauline and Ernest had an ongoing affair and eventually got married in Paris. Hemingway has so many connections and friendships
Frederic has become aware of the soul and in his relation with Catherine he has achieved a greater awareness of life more than the experience he has attained from war; he realizes that life extends beyond the physical desires and beyond the physical body and realizes that the men who insist to maintain the war ignore the soul. Hemingway once said that he rewrote the last page of the novel thirty-nine times before getting his satisfaction of it, which places the emphasis that Hemingway’s real goal was not to end the novel with the tragic vision of Catherine’s death but to reveal the betterment of the man after committing a fault against himself. Frederic, whose all previous concerns have been about the sensuality of his world and whom he has refused the existence of the soul unless he can see it, has attained a real love that has enabled him to realize the difference between the body and the soul.
