The mission statement is vital to the school and how the athletic/activity program is directed. The values, core beliefs, and the environment is encompassed within the mission statement and should be adhered to by the staff, students, and (hopefully) by the community. As Bebell, Stemler, & Stonnaband (2011) exclaim, “mission statements represent an important summation or distillation of an organization’s core goals represented by concise and simple statements that communicate broad theme”. The athletic director should be able to create an environment in which the students, staff, and community will comprehend and implement the mission statement.
