Is it social justice to keep the flag flying? What is social justice? To keep or no to keep? Those are the questions. For many years, many people have argued about the true meaning of the Mississippi flag, there has been confusion as the true meaning of the flag. Some argue that the flag represents the southern heritage and the pride shown through the individual state. Others argue that it is a symbol of slavery and racism throughout the state. One side, people believe that it means negative things from the past. The other, kind of persuades the first side to keep it up. They also claim that the flag doesn’t mean negative things when it’s obvious it does. Some may believe that because of the television series Dukes of Hazzard, was the decoration for the top of the roof. Back to the negative, people who watched it were considered “racist”. Although the people that don’t want the flag taken down, that taking the flag down is the best choice in my opinion. Yet the people that wanted the flag to stay up won’t be satisfied, there won’t be as much violence and/or problems as there are now. In conclusion, it would be very difficult to argue whether the Mississippi flag is a symbol of southern heritage or racism. What has been proved is that the flag has caused confusion a lot of controversy. It is not raised when something good happens in our state.
