Extroverts can be some of the best people you meet. They have plenty to offer and thrive at the attention of others. However, being introverted can be just as great. In a society where being extroverted is the ideal, it can be very difficult to be an introvert. Susan Cain argues in her Ted Talk, “The Power of Introverts”, that introverts can share many brilliant ideas with the world and should be encouraged and celebrated for who they are.
An extrovert lives in the outside world. These people are perceived to be more bold and outgoing. An introvert, in contrast prefers to live inside their mind. They are seen as more quiet and shy. Jack shows the traits of an extrovert from the very beginning.
In Susan Cain’s book, Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking she proves that introverts are vital to the world and everything typically thought of “the quiet ones” is wrong. She starts the book by introducing the idea of the introvert. This term is derived from psychologist Carl Jung who basically invented the personality test. When deciding on a name for different types of individuals, he called the more reserved people who gain their energy from being alone and are typically not very open introverts.
He was a very smart kid, he could memorize the numbers on the back of teacher's room keys. He came up to my mom one day and flipped over her key and read the number. He immediately said “ no, this isn't right.” And walked away. He knew her key number from the year before, but it had changed this year.
He never got in trouble and because of this he always had ways to get his friends out of trouble. He was a teacher's pet, but know cared because he was just so lovable. Even when he was in elementary school everyone loved him, he is one the best friends a person can have. That all changed at the start of seventh grade.
I was pretty much the wimpy kid that was an outsider but, things started to change between us when we were in highschool. It wasn 't until highschool that we actually became somewhat friends. We were both in the basketball
But even when I was younger, I began to recognize that not everyone is wired the same way. I first began to see this in a childhood friend, [who was the polar opposite (rephrase later)]. “Why don’t you want to make more friends and play with everyone else?” “I just really don’t want to because I don’t like being around people”. This statement shocked me, and I realized there were people who were not nearly as social as I was, I became curious.

Yet when they are judged by people it is because of the observations those people have had which lead them to judge someone in a certain way. Outsiders are simply misunderstood. It is impossible for outsiders to be misjudged because they are clearly judged by people already who just don’t understand them. Most if not all people have felt some sort of exclusion at some point in their lives. These experiences can either lead us to be more of an extrovert or more of an introvert.
Extroverts will likely recognize the behavior described in their friends and family, and be reminded that while extroversion certainly has much to offer, so does introversion. An essential part of my personality everyone should know is its duality. I would describe myself as neuroticly introverted, but to any observer I probably seem like an extrovert, which would be a reasonable assumption, considering I address the school as class president and perform stand-up comedy of my own volition. This split in my personality took place in elementary school, back when my social skills were nonexistent. While most of the boys played football or soccer, I preferred to play pretend on the playground. Little did I know, I was missing out on a major portion of socialization by not playing sports and was instituting a self-imposed isolation.
This was one of the key discussions we had before I started constructing my icon. You mentioned that I was an extrovert which, was noticed by some students but for the majority, the students labelled me as an introvert. What I understood from the words, “closed up,” used in the class discussion, is that the student was referring to the mirrors facing outward and inward as a barrier from others which, is a characteristic sometimes associated with introverts. I still feel I have the characteristics of an introvert on my own time which, may have been the reason why it showed through in my icon rather than characteristics of an extrovert. The attribute extrovert was never used to describe my icon directly, however, Camillo described the icon as a flashy sparkling bomb which, could have some association with an extroverted personality.
