CONCEPT 2 – CHANNELS OF COMMUNICATION

Introduction
Communication is a process of passing information from one person to another. It usually involves two or more people; the person passing the information and the person receiving the information. Channel of Communication– The two main types of communication; formal and informal. Formal communication is the kind of information that is being passed through formal channels. It is related to work and work related matters. Informal communication is the kind of information that is not work related.

There is usually heads of the community in our social setting. The head of the community coordinates the affairs of the community through communication. It is through communication that they make decisions and plan towards achieving their goals. The head of the community summons the other elders of the community in case there is any issue and they discuss the way forward. If the head of the community has not communicated effectively with the other elders of the community, they will not go for any meeting with him and they will not get anything done. The people in my community carry out a lot of community development projects on their own without even calling on the government for assistance. If the head has not instituted channels of effective communication, there may not be any headway.
Research on Effective Communication Eleanor and Philip (1985) said that ability to communicate well is an essential skill for the nurse manager or any manager who must pass information to and receive information from many individuals; patients, patients’ families, staff, management of the organization, etc. The nurse manager should be able to communicate both through writing and orally.
