Conceptualization: The theme “breaking the mould, uniqueness celebrated” meant to bring out an aspect special to who I was, something I was better at than everybody else. “You are a marvel. You are unique. In all the years that have passed, there has never been another child like you” – Pablo Picasso. I chose to go with my great adaptable ability, as I was shoved and moved around from place to place my whole life. Most people would have broken down or gone crazy from the constant movement, but I was always able to adapt to the situation at hand. Although it was difficult at times, it made me a stronger, better person which is why I’ve chosen Tracy Payne’s “rebirth”. Her artwork relates to being able to go through difficult times, as birth is not easy, and being given brand new opportunities. It was simply used to create a neutral background for my artwork. The same was done with “rebirth” and “Prometheus” so that the viewer is not easily distracted by a busy or chaotic background. This encourages the viewer to pay close attention to the detail and focal point of the artworks, in the case of my own, the viewer’s eye was drawn to my face. This was important because it showed the viewer that my artwork was very personal. I communicated my emotion through my changing geckos, the biggest one on my face to show how I’d become the gecko, gone through tough times and turned out beautiful. Emotion was also prevalent in my lack of a facial expression, the same as Payne’s “rebirth” where the body is in a fetal position, clearly showing vulnerability, but there is no face to show expression whereas Mason’s “Prometheus” shows angst and inner turmoil through the facial expression, and how the chaotic, jittery lines go over and cover the
