In the short story “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell the theme is nothing is what is seems. The story of "The Most Dangerous Game" has a wide range of settings, first it was on the deck of a ship, and it proceeded onward to the water, where Rainsford needed to swim, until the point when he achieved the island. From that point he went to General Zaroff's stone house, where there Rainsford find out General Zaroff is hunting more than just animals, from there on, the setting moved to the woods chasing amusement began. “Hunting? Great Guns, General Zaroff, what you speak of is murder.”
Second, rainsford falls off the boat and ends up on an island. Rainsford finds blood and a gun. (Conell 42). Third, When Rainsford said "that the Cape buffalo is the most dangerous of all big game."
In the book Rainsford jumps off the edge of the island and swims back to the castle to hide and wait for Zaroff. However, in the film he comes back and escapes with Eve. In the book the General dies because Rainsford kills him. In spite of the short story’s plot, Zaroff dies because of his own fault in the movie. Also Rainsford escapes and leaves the island in the movie.
At this time, Hollywood was always trying add dramatic twists to movies. To begin with, they added a girl to the movie. The girl also has a brother who is lured into playing Zaroff’s game and is eventually killed. Rainsford and this girl seem to be intimate. Also, Rainsford doesn’t fall off of his yacht.
Rainsford swims to the island after falling off the yacht. He arrives at a small island called "Ship-Trap Island.”. On the mysterious Caribbean island, he finds a house owned by a hunter named Zaroff. Rainsford and Zaroff are both hunters but Zaroff is a world famous hunter. However, Zaroff hunts a different animal which can fight back “humans”.
Why does all of this happens to them ? Rainsford is an inveterate smoker. What accident changes his life ? A smoking pipe. He smokes a pipe and when he hears shots, he drops his pipe, but instead of letting it fall into the sea he tries to catch it and loses his balance.
