Countless larger companies utilize powerful rhetoric strategies to create a certain image of their product and convince consumers to purchase said product. The car company Jeep aired an advertisement during the 2020 Super Bowl, which attempted to sell one of their newer Jeep Gladiators. The company based their advertisement on a familiar and comical movie and included widely-known actors. The advertisement included fun dialogue and eye-catching imagery that allowed audiences to stay intrigued in the story and idea being expressed. The advertisement portrays to all possible consumers, through effective strategies, that the Jeep Gladiator aids drivers in making each day new and exciting.

To help prove his point, Turow includes examples of ordinary consumers and how advertising companies have affected their lives. Turow includes a story of a fictional, middle class family that has been targeted by advertising companies. This example is important because it illustrates the power of the media on a small scale and how it can affect families, the reader’s family included. Turow includes this fictional example because it is a real possibility in today’s world, and it happens to the family without them realizing

Throughout The Incredibles, the crime rate in the city does not change as much but rather the ability to prevent crime, as superheroes are thrown in and out of the equation, meaning that the best solution is to adjust the police force to be better for times lacking superheroes. Graph (a) shows the overall change for crime in the movie, and is broken down in Graph (b), which shows the original supply and demand before the superheroes went into hiding, and Graph (c), which expresses the movement along the demand curve as the lack of superheroes affects the city’s ability to prevent crime and increases the cost of doing so. This movement is expressed in Graph (a) as the price floor line, which moves demand to a point of less quantity and supply
The film’s ethos, pathos, and logos all contribute to persuasion, as the poster forces a determination regarding interest in the upcoming film. I will discuss the poster for The Wolf of Wall Street and how it uses each rhetorical device as a means to establish the tone and setting for the film. A film’s ethos focuses on certain actors, directors, and production companies with loyal fanbases. An actor, such as Leonardo DiCaprio, has the ability to drive up a film’s success at the box office, simply by attaching his name to the poster.
The tension between artistic vision and commercial success is a recurring theme throughout the film, as the characters navigate the changing landscape of the industry. Sunset Boulevard is an entertaining portrayal of the dramatic side of Hollywood in the 1950’s through the film noir genre and thoroughly does so through repeated themes of entrapment. Sunset Boulevard is the name of the street Norma Desmond, a renowned silent film actress, resides in. She confides within a film writer to restore her fame back to what she had as a silent film actress in the newly introduced “talkies”. The writer, Joe Gillis, is thus stuck with the task of aiding her to help out his economic status.
Hartman Jule once said, “Advertising is only another form of statistics.” The world today is consumed by advertisements for products, politicians, and much more. It is inescapable, and yet it is difficult to truly grasp the amount of thought and effort that advertising agencies must put into their marketing approaches. That is, until one views The Persuaders. War is the biggest cause of destruction for nations. World War I in 1914 to 1918 shook the stability of countries and involved military alliances between different groups of countries. In 2015, HBO aired a six-part, true crime documentary series titled, The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst. Writer and director, Andrew Jarecki, examined the details of three crimes associated with Durst, including the disappearance of Durst’s first wife Kathy, the murder of his dear friend, Susan, and the murder and dismemberment of his neighbor, Morris Black. While the mini-series was met with acclaim, many – including myself – criticize The Jinx for its storytelling approach. The series seemingly blurs the lines of storytelling – for entertainment purposes – and journalism; raising many questions regarding ethics. Initially, Durst approached Jarecki regarding an interview after he saw All Good Things, a film Jarecki had released
Advertising is a form of propaganda that plays a huge role in society and is readily apparent to anyone who watches television, listens to the radio, reads newspapers, uses the internet, or looks at a billboard on the streets and buses. The effects of advertising begin the moment a child asks for a new toy seen on TV or a middle aged man decides he needs that new car. It is negatively impacting our society. To begin, the companies which make advertisements know who to aim their ads at and how to emotionally connect their product with a viewer. For example, “Studies conducted for Seventeen magazine have shown that 29 percent of adult women still buy the brand of coffee they preferred as a teenager, and 41 percent buy the same brand of mascara”
