Mr White Hero's Journey

In the show “Breaking Bad” Mr.White a mild mannered highschool chemistry teacher, becomes a drug lord. He was poor and was “diagnosed with terminal lung cancer”(Barner NP). So before he died he wanted to leave some money behind for his family, but he needed to do it fast. He then joined the meth field using his chemical knowledge to create the best meth which in turn makes him somewhat of a beginner villain. The story of Mr.White becoming a drug lord uses elements of a hero's journey even though he is not a hero. At the beginning of the show Mr.White gets his call to action just like every hero's journey. We first see his call to adventure towards the beginning of the show when he learns he has cancer, and that it could kill him. The problem …show more content…

The thing is that Jessie is hired alongside him as his partner in Mr. White's new lab that Guss gave him. Mr.White has made it into the threshold of his hero's journey. He has changed from a man making and selling meth on the streets. To make 200 pounds of meth a week in a professional grade laboratory. Making ten times the amount of money as he did before. There is one problem though, and that is the fact that Guss Fring is using Mr.White because he makes the most pure meth, and he really wants to kill him, but he can't kill him yet because he has to have someone learn how Mr.White does it. This is where we enter the challenge phase of his hero's journey because we know that he doesn’t want to die and will have to figure a way out of this situation. The first step into Gus’s plan is to kick Jessie out and hire another lab partner. The lab partner's main goal was to learn how to cook the perfect meth, and then they would kill Mr.White because he is a liability. When Mr.White figures this out it is almost too late, but he got Jessie to kill the other lab partner. This part of the story is where he overcomes his challenge and survives. So now Guss is mad and is looking for a reason to kill Mr.White, but can’t because he needs another cook. Mr.White goes ahead and kills Gus first. After killing him he told his wife “I am
