The principles I have studied in this leadership course validates the mission of the Carver School of Social Work and Counseling because the goal of the program is to prepare us as students to work in a variety of settings with a variety of client types and systems. The mission statement of the MSW program is to expand career opportunities and prepare advanced generalist social service practitioners and/or administrators through advanced social work academic preparation in a Christ centered environment. In the spirit of Christian service, graduates apply advanced level professional social work skills in regional, national and/or international settings for the purposes of improving the quality of life (Campbellsville University Carver School of Social Work & Counseling, …show more content…

This knowledge can be applied to one of the goals of the MSW program and that is to empower, lead, and serve as practitioners, service coordinators, service administrators, policy analysts, and program developers (Campbellsville University Carver School of Social Work & Counseling, 2017) . What we learned about leadership will be helpful in the field to be effective in empowering followers, lead, and develop programs. We learned about different types of leadership approaches, which can be applied with the goal of being equipped with the knowledge, values, and skills for service with diverse, at risk, marginalized, and oppressed populations. We learned about the different theories associated with leadership and the importance of decision making, which can be applied with the goal of being skilled evaluating and linking empirical knowledge, social work wisdom, social research and practice outcomes. We discussed ethics in management which can be applied to the foundation competencies in the MSW handbook of making ethical decisions by applying the standards of the NASW Code of
