Lion King Debate Case- NEG: 2:50 Note: Read slow Introduction We the negative strongly disagree with the resolution that states, “Resolved: Mufasa from Disney's ‘The Lion King’ is a good king.” We define a good king as someone who is kind and fair to everyone and who doesn’t act racist or discriminate. We believe Mufasa is not a good king for the following reasons… He is very racist He teaches his son bad life lessons He is a hypocrite Contention #1: Mufasa is racist First of all, Mufasa is extremely racist towards the hyenas for no reason at all. He banishes them to the elephant graveyard and leaves them to fend for themselves in a barren wasteland. The hyenas never did anything to Mufasa to make him banish them, he just did it out of pure hatred for their kind. Mufasa could’ve just let the hyenas stay and no harm would’ve come to him, but instead, he banishes them to a horrible place with no food and no water. The only reason for the hyenas to join Scar in his rebellion is because they were being bribed with food. If someone promised you food forever and you had been hungry for months and possibly years, would you take the chance? If mufasa had kept them in the Pride Lands and had fed them and kept his people safe the hyenas would have never helped Scar and Mufasa would never have died. He is always talking about peace in the Pride Lands, and that every animal matters and plays a part in the circle of life. If they really mattered then the hyenas would be peacefully eating and living in the Pride Lands. He also tells Simba this, but goes and disobeys his own rules. He still beats up the hyenas, which is hurting the circle of life, which he says not to do. Once again, he talks about respecting animals, but then he teaches Simba how to hunt which is completely against everything he just said.
