On January 17, 1942, a baby named Cassius Clay, soon to be known as Muhammad Ali, was born. People didn’t have any idea about what he would do to the world of boxing, and even to those who did not box. Muhammad Ali became a famous boxer after being taught how to box by a policeman. Boxing may be viewed as a precarious job, but Ali had great success in it. He called himself the greatest, and “floated like a butterfly, but stung like a bee.” Sadly, he died not very long ago in the summer of 2016. Ali is remembered, to this day, for his unparalleled boxing skills, his overweening confidence, and a surprisingly strong devotion to his religion, Islam.

He even refused to go to war because it went against Islam’s teachings, and was stripped of his career. This is a strong demonstration of Ali’s devotion to Islam, because he basically gave up his life and success for his religion. Even though Ali eventually got his career back, he couldn’t box for 2 years straight and lost his first game in 1971 to Joe Frazier. An infographic titled “Muhammad Ali: The Path to Greatest-ness” shows that in 1964, Cassius Clay changed his name to Muhammad Ali. Ali legally changed his name because of his religion. To advance further than just going to a place or worship- it really takes a devout person to do that.
