As the project manager I must determine seven representatives that will serve on the multidisciplinary board project team. The team would consist of the lead physician, lead nurse practitioner,lab manager, coding supervisor,physician assistant, and front desk clerk. This would cover all departmental area of the healthcare organization. Having a representative from all department areas will bring different perspectives on how the new system will be used and will provide a wide range of skills and knowledge. The team must possess specific skills, knowledge, and expertise in order to make this project a success.

Communication in the operating room is very important. If surgeons and nurses are not communicating effectively it can directly affect the quality of patient care and safety. In 1999, the Institute of Medicine (IOM) issued a report, To Err is Human: Building a Safer Health System, which estimated the fifth leading cause of death in hospitals in the United States was due to health care errors (Mason, Gardner, Outlaw, Freida, 2016). To help reduce these errors, effective communication needs to be exercised throughout health care.

Prior to this initial ‘team’ the NICU was managed by the neurosurgery attending and residents in between surgeries. The NICU team’s purpose was to improve and provide better care to the variety of complex neuro critical ill patient population at a 605 bed academic center in Metro Atlanta.
A healthcare system should include an interprofessional team that works well together. If everyone in the interprofessional team is not cooperative or passionate about building the group, this may impact a patient’s outcome. The goal of an interprofessional team within a healthcare system is to provide the finest quality of care for their patients. If one or multiple cannot put the effort to work with others, the intended result may be corrupt. It is vital for healthcare interprofessional teams to function as a whole to provide the greatest result.
Communication is an essential piece of caring for patients. Multiple team members will collaborate when providing patient care. It is crucial that critical information is included in the numerous hand-offs that will occur. A lack of communication will definitely put the patient at an increased risk for errors and threaten patient safety. It is essential to include all members of the team.

This permits greater communication between each other. Working within a multidisciplinary team enables collaborative working and improves patient care. The guidelines set by the NP’s Core competencies involves educational programs for nurse practitioner and are referred to as essentials behaviors for all NPs (The National Organization of Nurse Practitioner, ([NONPF],2017). As a future NP, this course has echoed the importance to critically examine information given by finding evidence to support and manage care for the individual or the population, which I will apply to my practice. This, in turn, will offer better treatment plan and optimize better patient outcome. Using the differential diagnosis to pinpoint the best possible diagnosis for individuals has helped me to use critical thinking about my patient and to find the appropriate plan of care.

Investing my time in the care of my patient gives the opportunity to not only assist them in a difficult situation, but also to learn more about their diagnosis and the treatment, while comparing it to what we have learned in class. For example, I had a patient that suffered from Sickle Cell Disease and came to the ER during a crisis. Correlating this case to the books and the content learned in class, these patients receive at least 1000 mL of fluids, pain medication, and oxygen. Additionally, I had a patient with meningitis. This individual presented with common symptoms such as nuchal rigidity, muscle pain, fever, and chills.
