My Family: Band, Christianity, And Education

Who Am I? My family has a very generic, American culture. If I had to choose 3 things that defined our culture, and me more specifically, they would have to be band, Christianity, and education. My education will help me have a beneficial life. Christ will help me have important values. Band helps build my character as I get older. These three are connected, if I have a good life through education and have a purpose through the values of christianity and mature through band my cultural identity becomes displayed. Education has been an important part of my life so far. My family has always placed high value on education. My brother and I were raised thinking if we have a good education then we can make a good living and provide for our future families. Having bad grades had always meant a punishment and having good grades was rewarded. As I have gotten older high grades and a high GPA has become and expectation. When I first started high school I didn't think I was going to be involved in anything. At first I actually hated band. My parents forced me into it and I hated putting in so much time and effort into music. I didn't even like music. Although, looking back on it I am so blessed that they forced me into it. Band has given me important characteristics that make me who I am proud to be. I became responsible for me and others because I was apart of a group that depended on me to be right. Band showed me how to have a great work ethic. I had to put in time and effort all the time. This work ethic has transferred over to my education and chores. Band has been an amazing experience for me and I wish I could do it longer than just 4 years. However, I have to take this new characteristics and apply them as I build a future for myself through culture and further
