My father took me on my first camping trip, until now I had only heard stories about camping from my cousins. They told tales about hiking, fishing, cooking, and gathering around the campfire. I was looking forward to having my own experience that I could share with them.
I helped gather up the necessary gear for my big adventure. I got my sleeping bag, pillow, and flashlight. I located my fishing pole and net for the lake. I also wanted to bring my trusty magnifying glass for inspecting all the bugs, insects, small reptiles, and creepy crawly things I could find. I got my knapsack, a folder, and containers to protect everything I collected.
As we arrived at our location I started scoping out the best spot to set up camp. I wanted it to be near the woods and have a great place to build a campfire. After about five minutes of looking

With the two fish in my hands, I placed them in my bucket and then waded into the shallow water to see what else I could find. I saw swimming minnows and then just as I looked back up to the shore I saw a small turtle crawling through the sand. I asked my father if we had something we could put it in. I retrieved a shallow pan which I filled with rocks, sand, and water for the turtle. With my fish and turtle I headed back to the camp to prepare for lunch. We roasted hot dogs and made pocket sandwiches over the campfire.
Now that lunch was over it was time to get a fresh bucket of water and prepare to clean the fish I caught for tonights dinner. After I washed up from helping my father clean the fish we caught, I got out my folder that contained the leaves I had found, the jar with the bugs, and my turtle. I then sat down at the picnic table to look over everything that I had found. When evening came we ate the fish I had caught, then sat by the campfire and roasted more marshmallows. Another day had come to an end as I drifted off to sleep listening as the crickets chirped in the cool dusk
