Two years into my academic career, I realized I had picked the wrong major. Which is why the last two years at Carthage College I participated in activities and organizations that would allow me to develop my skills in the area of business. Which leads me to the reason I am reaching out to you today, I am interested in the entry level Business Consultant position as advertised on your website. These two internship opportunities provided me with an inside look into the world of business and I absolutely loved it. I developed the ability to effectively interact and communicate with customers and clients while maintaining the integrity and brand of the company, effectively balancing the needs of the client and the goals of the organization. In my multifaceted internship with Speedway, I was tasked with the growth and development of our staff, our stores, and our sales. I would actively look for areas of improvements and worked with staff members to streamline and improve our delivery of customer service and products. In addition, my time spent with various officers of the organization gave me a broader perspective into the operations of the stores and all the resources needed to make the stores successful. As the Co-VP of Human Resources for Velocity Consulting I learned to make quick judgements on individuals and target their areas of strengths and weaknesses. This was particularly crucial as I led and managed teams working towards the needs of our clients. However, being a leader is not about being at the forefront, but knowing when to take the backseat. This I learned as a member of the team that delivered a soft-goods marketing analyses to Helen Johnson, the CEO of Johnson Outdoors and her board
