We sacrificed our time and efforts to push our teammates and serve our community. After three coaches quitting on the team, Elizabeth and I were left with broken hearts. Our unity as sisters and leaders sparked a flame to push
However, I continued to work on my flaws and tried out the following year and made it, because of this I believe I could bring a sense of positivity and dedication to the team. I would like to bring ideas to the team such as grade split ups, meaning not everything is done by grades allowing the older girls to really get to know the newer ones on a deeper level, eventually leading to a stronger connected
Fortunately, I have seen a lot of success with two school state championships and competing at the nation’s highest level for the club. But this year, having graduated the majority of our school team, we began the season without much collective experience or talent. As the team captain and only returning starter, I knew that leading the team would be a challenge. Previously, I only had to do my job, but now, my maximum effort and personal commitment to perfection were necessary for our team’s success. My integrity on the court in practice and games had to grow this season, and I am incredibly grateful for this team that is so different from others on which I have played.
My ACL Tear Journey At The Hospital A quick turn on a soccer field led me to the worst experience in my life. A while back in my sophomore year I tore my ACL while I was practicing for my first soccer game of the school year. I made a quick turn without positioning my feet correctly on the ground. I thought that I broke my knee, but I never knew that after that day I would have experienced the worst day a month after on February 15th.
The time I almost got cut from the basketball team.the first day of tryouts I didn’t come because I didn’t have my physical at the time.but when I got it I was there and lots of people were and only fifteen could qualify. On the first day all we had to do was shoot and show our form. But we did do something a little fun you had to get a partner and perform some moves on him. So the coach said “go” me and my partner which was Robert.
Throughout every individual’s lives, there are trials and tribulations. As for me, the challenges I have faced have not been the most difficult. Although, being on the varsity Tigette team has definitely challenged me. Spending so much time with a small group of teenage girls, it can be hard to keep from fighting. Despite the trials of character, we find a way to work together at the end of the day.
The softball team has gave me unforgettable friendships, the ability to play with such inspiring athletes, and has given me skills that I can carry on due to coach Sal. The first year I had started on West High’s softball team was sophomore year. I remember going to the try outs, feeling awkward, due to me not being close to any of the girls since we were twelve and eleven. All the girls that were my age, the ones I was friends with when I was younger, were all on varsity. Since it was my first year back as a Falcon, Sal placed me on JV.
Then, tragedy struck the team; three of our fastest girls were injured and out for the season. Now, I wasn’t happy about them being sidelined, but it did finally give me a chance to recover my placement from the beginning of sophomore year. I wanted to help lead the team to state, and with what my coach had previously said, it didn’t appear to be too far out of my reach. However, “too far” should have been followed by an asterisk, as my season soon spiraled out of my
I remember lingering onto the field the first day of tryouts hearing, “ Oh who’s that girl?” or “ Is she even good?” from girls that I didn’t even know. I was the outcast, the one who was not even sure if I had made the right decision. This was not the atmosphere that I enjoyed being in; I am the type of girl to have fun with the
I waited by the dance room door for what felt like hours, waiting to see if I made the varsity cheer team. The feeling of both nervousness and excitement overcame me as the coach walked over to the door to post the numbers of the few who made it. The past nine years of my life I played softball year round when I decided to trade in my bat and helmet for a set of pom-poms and a bow. Making the switch from softball to cheer was a big change, I had neither the skill nor physical capability to do what the sport of cheer incorporated.
I’ll admit it, I’m not the best player on my team. And as we all know, there’s only so many spots for the varsity team. So in no way did I expect to make varsity as a sophomore. However, I didn’t expect my friends too, either. The preseason had gone well: we practiced in the gym
“It seems to me that most men have received from nature enough common sense to make laws, but that everyone is not just enough to make good laws” (Philosophical Dictionary 186, European Graduate School). Voltaire spent his life sharing sentiments such as these and through these created great change. Many consider Voltaire a brave hero, not for his prominence as a warrior or tactfulness as a businessman, but for his bold, modern philosophy, determination to spread his ideas, and the impact of his work had during and long after his life. Voltaire achieves heroic status solely with his renown for modern philosophy and ideas; not even mentioning the other heroic traits about him. “I do not agree with what you have to say, but I’ll defend to the
Growing up in the southside of queens’ public school is the typical for most African American in the neighborhood. But of course, my mom wanted to make sure I wasn’t just typical so for high school I had attend a private school. I was very eager to join a new school but also nervous but to get rid of nerves I joined various after school activities to meet new people and feel comfortable at school. I joined the girls’ basketball, I quickly noticed that I had been the only African American girl on the team, but I didn’t let that stop me from trying to improve my game and make new friends. As the basketball season went on I had noticed that not much of the girls would talk to me, but I continued to rub it off and made the best out of it.
My eighth-grade year, I tried out for the school’s co-ed soccer team and was confident that I would make the team. During the three hard days of try-outs, I pushed myself to improve each day and received several compliments from the coaches. On the last day, the head coach pulled me aside to tell me
