In the book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Miss Caroline is treated poorly because some of her students think she is picking on a kid that comes from a poor family. It is the first day of first grade for Scout and Miss Caroline is her teacher. Miss Caroline's students do not realize that she is not trying to pick on a student named Walter when she tries to be nice by paying for his lunch but does not know that he would have to pay the money back. “You’re shamin’ him, Miss Caroline. Walter hasn’t got a quarter at home to bring you”.(Lee 28)
The barrier between her and the neighbours after her husband’s death forced her to become reserved and quiet. Her and her son only went into town if they had to. They preferred to stay close to the garden where they felt safe. The death of the husband is the cause of the mothers’ complete change in character. The death let the audience connect with her on a deeper level to understand her pain and suffering.

Marcus, a main character in the book Little Brother, was near the bay bridge in San Francisco when it was blown up by terrorists. He was blamed for it by the DHS (Department of Homeland Security). Due to the bombing, the city was put under heavy watch by the DHS and everyone was treated as a potential terrorist, especially Marcus. Throughout the book, Marcus fought against the DHS for the rights to privacy of himself and the civilians of San Francisco.

Elie Wiesel goes through 2 years of inhumane treatment, but always looks forward, because he has his father. When the Holocaust starts to come to an end, his father dies from Dysentery, leaving Elie lifeless. Although, through all that hardship, he recovers and that family bond can preserve sanity, and never to give up on life. When Elie endured all of this, usually people lose their sanity, but not Elie, for he had his father through most of it. This quote shows that without his father, the only family he had left, he was just an empty shell.
A mother and her child will always have a special connection, depending on situations. Many people are willing to put up the biggest fight to share moments with their mother, many are willing to change filthy habits to keep relationships. In the novel, Enrique’s Journey by Sonia Nozario, a man puts his life to the test by making a trip from Central America to the United States on foot to find his mother, Lourdes. Surviving the impossible, he is reunited, but is confronted by many conflicts with Lourdes . Leaving behind a girlfriend and a child was a large step, bad habits were formed for a second time after arriving in the States, causing Enrique to want to return back to Honduras.
Father Flynn is also innocent because of Sister Aloysius’s different personality combined with the fact that she does not contain enough evidence to properly convict him. She exemplifies this role because she is a nun, and nuns are traditionally strict in the Christian Church. Sister Aloysius is also a principal for the school, which further implements her position as a strict nun. It is obvious that she uses her power to punish the students in the school: “Sister Aloysius: When William London gets a nosebleed, be skeptical. Do not let a little blood fuddle your judgment” (Shanley 12).
