When I was born I was very sick and I stayed at the hospital for a long time. My family consists of my mum, Belinda my dad Marc, and my nine year old sister Charlotte. Lessons from the Culture Every year we see family emigrate to other countries, and they face many challenges. The stories “Sweet, Sour, and Resentful”, by Firoozeh Dumas, and from “Fish Cheeks”, by Amy Tan, share similar cultures and really interesting stories. Also, both families from the essay share several challenges that they are face when they move to the United States of America. The two families share many similarities; however, they differ in to keeping their culture, showing openness, and teaching a lesson from their culture to others.
The Hate You Give written by Angie Thomas was inspired by a lifetime of events, but the death of Oscar Grant was what prompted Thomas to write her novel. Thomas lived in a poor, black community in Jackson, Mississippi, and was exposed to and witnessed violence on several occasions throughout her young life. She first heard the news of the death of Grant while she was attending a predominantly white university in Jackson where many students made assumptions that Grant was automatically at fault or involved with gangs or drugs. From this event, Thomas realized that the world needed to hear what she had to say in The Hate You Give. Grant 's death by police wasn 't the first nor the last that lead to a community uprising.

We are now forced to live at Beacon hills, California.
Some peer groups can be good and some can be bad. The peer group that I was a part of in high school was bad. In high school I was always a little different and did not have many fiends because the clique or peer group in my high school used the Social Typing which is a “labeling process that begins when a person violates a norm. Negate sanctions are applied to norm violates in the form of criticisms, punishments, and/or labels.” They labeled me as a “dorky weird girl.”

When I moved to the small town of Luther, Oklahoma I didn 't talk much. I was shy and had trouble making friends. I couldn 't care less about my schoolwork, even though my teachers thought I was very bright. I wasn 't interested in sports. At my old school I was active in Girl Scouts, but I lost interest in that a year or two after moving.
It was a Friday night. We were thrilled to be out of school, it had been a long week. I was on a short leash with my teachers since me and my pals Barry and John brought stink bombs to school and stunk up the whole cafeteria. At least twenty kids had to go home sick. Needless to say, it was the prank of the year.
“Thinking like a freak” is the way of thinking which is illogical, foolish and the most risky. According to Steven Levitt and Stephen Dubner,”thinking like a freak” is very easy, but most people don’t choose it to solve their problems. There are three reasons why people usually hold the idea off from“thinking like a freak”, include: protecting own reputation, making predictions, and getting feedbacks. The first reason why people usually hold the idea off from “thinking like a freak” is protecting their own reputation. Most of people’s reputations are very high and “thinking like a freak” breaks the rule of each people.
In austin so I started 6th grade and we moved again but this time by some train tracks and I went to school at Paredes. For half a year then went to a school closer to my house called fulmore for a few months then back to Paredes to finish sixth. Then we moved up north to brownie Dr and I went to Dobie for 7th grade. Half ways through the year I moved back with my dad but when summer came along back to my mom 's . Then 8th went to Paredes with my cousin for half a year then moved back north on metric to edge creek apartments and moved to Burnet middle school.
The poem “We Real Cool ,” written by Gwendolyn Brooks in the late 1950s. The poem set in a popular pool hall called the Golden Shovel, in this time era pool halls and the Civil Rights Movement were very popular. The Civil Rights Movement was a movement where desegregation, protest, and social identity was an issue.
In the book You Don’t Know Me, the author David Klass used many different tools & techniques to show the theme of coming of age. I’ll be showing off some of the techniques he used to provide us with the theme of coming of age in a clear and understandable manner. The first one that he used was John’s relationship with his mother. Throughout the book, their relationship is strained in John’s view due to the fact that he believes that she would almost always choose his abusive stepfather, or not-dad as he regards him by, over him, her own son. However, the irony in all of this is, by the novel’s end, we learn that John’s mom really did adore him, and in John’s words, really knew who he was.
One person called my “nerd” while others called me “glasses”. After that day, I felt sick so I decided to stay home. When I got back to school, I asked someone what I missed and they said “ you should know that right ”. Ever since then, I got scared of asking questions. I conquer my fear during junior high since my friends proved, that stereotypes is just a hurdles that I can get over with.
The poem “One Boy Told Me” by Naomi Shihab Nye, was told by her son when he was two and three years of age. His comments, thoughts, and remarks were jotted down verbatim by Naomi and pieced together to create the one of a kind free verse poem. Nye assembled the phrases into individual stanza’s where they coherently flow to one another to illustrate the mind of a toddler. Wide ranges of emotions and personalities invoke the inner child and their curiosity. Overall, her son’s interpretations of his surroundings and understandings are represented in how the idioms expressed set the stage for intrusiveness, humor, and poetic devices to contribute to the overall meaning.
In the short story My Son the Fanatic, the relation between father and son gets tested, when the father Parvez, discovers that his son Ali has developed his religious believes into a more extreme manner. The short story takes place in England, and deals with a father’s desperate attempt to understand his son, and a son’s attempt to find himself, and take a stand on western society and believes through a religious perspective. In this essay I will analyze and interpret the short story, by answering following research questions: The characterization of the protagonist Parvez, the setting in the short story, the relationship between the father Parvez, and his son Ali, and the main theme. Parvez is the protagonist in the short story; he is a Pakistani immigrant, making his living in England, driving the taxi.
