Personal Philosophy My nursing philosophy is base on the popular quote by Mother Teresa which says "it is not how much you do but how much love you put in the doing." Nursing to me is not just a job to pay the bills but the act and science of providing nonjudgmental care to those in need regardless of race, spiritual beliefs, lifestyle choices, financial status, or disability. As a nurse, my patients will be the center of my practice and regardless of whom my patients are, I will go the extra mile to provide the best quality of care. My philosophy will be to provide competent, compassionate, caring, empathetic, and optimal holistic care to the best of my ability. The act of caring in nursing is primary. Caring influences the ways in which people think, feel, and behave in relations to one another. As nurses, understanding how to provide humanistic caring and compassion plays a vital part in our profession and begins early in the nursing profession. According to Swanson's Theory of Caring, caring is a process that involves knowing my patients, being emotionally present with my patient, doing for the other as he or she would do for self, enabling by facilitating my patients' passage through life transition and unfamiliar events and maintaining beliefs. The person is the recipient of the nursing care and therefore must be viewed as a valued person, to be nurtures, respected and understood with the right to make informed choices regarding their health. It is my belief to provide the best quality of care to patient receiving care. As a nurse, I will treat my patients' records with confidentiality and advocates for them. My philosophy will be to ensure that there is a good nurse- patient relationship so that the bond of trustworthy and respect can be built.
