Introduction:
Learning is a phenomenon which occurs in many ways. For students in a school setting the methods in which they are taught are always pushed. I experienced some of this from my first 15-day allocation of pre-service teaching at the Maranatha Christian College in Endeavour Hills. During this time, I have been observing and teaching different classes such as VCE Health, Outdoor Education, Year 7-10 P.E and VCE P.E. During these classes I have been either sitting in the corner of the room, teaching at the front or working 1 on 1 with students whilst wandering through the classroom where I can monitor the learning happening around me.

The main three learning theories I witnessed included humanistic, behaviouristic and constructivist techniques. After seeing various teaching methods which included some or all of these theories. A realisation I came to was that learning develops in a multitude of different ways, which normally depends on the teacher’s style. When considering what teaching method, I will adopt. I now believe that I cannot always portray the constructivist or humanistic approach I strongly support. This is because, at times, I noticed some students being hesitant and unable to control their own learning when I placed responsibility in their hands. I believe this comes back to either the students not wanting the responsibility, or they didn’t believe in their abilities enough to lead their own learning. What I took for this, is that some students worked better in some settings and others under other teaching approaches. However, I noticed that in each method, the students who would get the most out of each session, were those who actively engaged with the content and participated. Therefore, without student ‘buy in’, all teaching styles had diluted learning outcomes. What this means for me as a teacher. Is that no matter what style I adopt, I should ensure I can engage as many students as possible to optimise their development and understanding. To achieve this in the future, I believe I need to judge the group of students and from there choose the best way to teach for all students if
