Module 3 Assignment: Leadership Philosophy Shanie Adams Fort Hays State University, Student AEP 855: Understanding the Foundations of Education Dr. Kevin Splichal Ph.D. June 12, 2023 Introduction When creating my own Leadership Philosophy I think about my own values and beliefs. Being able to incorporate communication, organization, honesty, positivity, and empathy. These values form the foundation of my leadership philosophy guiding my actions and interactions with team members.
To help illustrate my personal leadership philosophy, I invite you to join me on a metaphorical journey into the world of bakery. Imagine yourself as a baker embarking on a quest to create the perfect cake. You have read countless recipes and attended baking classes, learning about different techniques, measurements, and ingredients. Armed with this knowledge, you meticulously follow every step outlined in the recipe, hoping to replicate the success of others. In this scenario, the recipe represents the leadership principles and styles taught to us.
I define a leader as a person who has not only the ability but also the willingness to endure the hardships others may not be capable of handling. Leaders not only inspire others to achieve goals that seem impossible but manage to get others to work together in achieving these set goals for the betterment of themselves and the mission. Respect, communication, and teamwork are the pillars that I believe most align with my leadership style. Respect is an important part of the foundation as a leader as you are responsible for promoting an environment of safety and growth. Communication is key, without it you are not taking into consideration the issues your members could be having.
Those individuals who were believed to have these inherent skills were people of very influential status, wartime heroes and those of great wealth. The people who emerge or are most picked to lead have distinctive drives and character profiles (Nicholson, 2013, p.16). Leadership Thought Development from 1900 – 1970 The thought of leadership evolved from the Great Man Theory to Trait Theory and Behavior Theory. The trait theory focuses on identifying distinctive personality traits and characteristics that are associated to successful leadership.
There are several specific traits that many leaders have in common, and those traits are considered as essentials for leaders. According to the great man theory, leaders are born, not made, and this theory became the fundamental of trait based theory. The limitation of trait based theory is not all situations require the same types of traits. Add to this, categorizing traits is not easy since there are hundreds of traits exist.
What is my leadership philosophy? My Personal Leadership Philosophy Having an idea is something which could be done by many, but ability to proceed the idea into real action is a caracteristic of a person with a leadership. Leadership is also about being able to take risks, creating a confidence and trust, ability to inspire and stay inspired. Leaders differ with their approach. My approach as a leader goes through being able to listen, staying honest in my response, being committed to my goals, bringing creative solutions to the problems, keeping my word, having a positive approach towards everything I do, and staying calm and condfident even in a very stressful situations. Leadership Analysis I originally joined LEAD with Honors thinking I would fix all the mistakes I made as a leader in high school. There were a lot of mistakes made, but the biggest one was my strategy for leader emergence. Actually, I did not know it was even a strategy.

In developing this paper on leadership, I examined what was most important to me as a leader. As I reflected on my leadership philosophy, I thought about my experiences and the principals that I have learned through my own self-discovery and the observation of other leaders that I have had throughout my life. My leadership philosophy paper will focus on what leadership is to me, core values, and knowledge of others.
