Leadership Analysis I originally joined LEAD with Honors thinking I would fix all the mistakes I made as a leader in high school. There were a lot of mistakes made, but the biggest one was my strategy for leader emergence. Actually, I did not know it was even a strategy. In the beginning, I would think I was not chosen, because I was not good enough of a leader. What I did not know was that I did not do enough to represent the group. I did not socially identify myself with the group sufficiently. Social Identity theory of Leadership theorizes that individuals who identify with their group and include the group in their self-definition are the ones the group selects to be their leader. A modern skyscraper community with nature that is isolated from rest of the urban city. It was so beautiful. It was always windy, had a lake and a nature trail. There was a youth club for the community started by the home owner’s association. My friend and I quickly joined and became active members of the group. I quickly became friends with the adults in chief who gave me more responsibility. This allowed me to talk to other members of the group. Eventually, we all became a family of 30 teenagers. But, I was more involved in it than anyone else. It became a part of me, because I would not only hang out with other group members, but also with the kids and interact with them to get to know more ways we can improve it. I acted as the “PR” for the club. I made the club look good. The active adults of the HOA knew me and believed everyone in this club was like me. Next year, I was elected the president of the Lanco Hills Youth Association. I was proud and happy. It was finally my chance to shine as a leader. I thought it was because I loved it so much, people recognized that. Now I can see how social identity theory played a role. I was very much involved. I would talk about the club wherever I went.
