Emotional Club Leadership Qualities

Over the last few years, I have taken a plethora of leadership positions, but the one I cherish the most is being vice president of the Emotional Club (EQ) at my school. Leaders help motivate not just themselves, but also the people around them to achieve and strive towards accomplishing a common goal. My position in the club gave me the responsibility to ensure that all members accomplished the main purpose of our club- increasing their emotional intelligence. Firstmost, it is imperative to understand what emotional intelligence truly is and the impact it can have on our lives. My duty was to make sure that people did not just join the club to put down on their resume, but to truly gain and learn something from it. From planning activities to counseling friends in time of need, I assisted all members to feel secure enough to talk about anything even when they felt as if they had no one. Our club members came together and advised each other on how to handle difficult issues dealing from their school life to their home life. For example, there was one member that was new to our district and came from a broken family with a history of bullying in her previous school. When she felt as if she had no one to lean on, our club came together to make sure she was never put back into the situation she ran from, eventually becoming her support system. Like this one, there have been several others situations where I have taken an initiative to make sure no one else feels as emotionally miserable as this member once did and teach others how to be genuinely happy. As a leader it is necessary one must have adept speaking skills and positive outlook and those are the exact qualities I possessed while assisting not just myself, but some of my now closest friends in becoming a better, happier version of
