John Maxwell once said "a good leader is a person who takes a little more than his share of the blame and a little less than his share of the credit." Leaders aren’t always in positions of authority. They’re just standing by ready to take the reins if needed. Leadership is one of life’s most difficult tasks. It challenges individuals to go above and beyond. Being a leader has definitely put me between a rock and hard place multiple times. I have had multiple leadership positions such as Captain of the Academic Team, member of Student Council, Officer of Spanish Club, and a Class Officer every year for the three previous years. Student Council performs numerous tasks around my school that hopefully improve the school and school spirit. The most important thing Student Council has taught me is: no matter how small, a good deed can go a long way. A handful of students and myself led to the founding of Spanish Club. Sadly Spanish Club isn’t an organization any more after the sponsor moved to a different position. However, my time in Spanish Club was well spent. The other officers and I organized a fundraiser selling Chupa Chups, Spanish lollipops, and then used the money to go to Dallas, Texas and watch authentic Hispanic dances. Something Spanish Club taught me was: never judge people by their culture, race, or background, we’re all people. I have held three positions as my time as class officer: Treasurer, Secretary, and Vice-president. Despite my best efforts I lost the race this year for the presidency, but you must learn from defeat and persevere. There isn’t much to being a Class Officer, you’re elected and that’s all. However, I have learned one thing: you’re not going to win every time, but you do have to learn from your defeat and ensure your victory next
