When I think about freedom I think about my country, our rights, and the reasons I can live the life I live. We have always had some form of oppression wither it was something along the lines of slavery or just restrictions on what we can or cannot do. Franklin D. Roosevelt said that we need to have peace within a country to experience freedom. I also think about how freedom is something that is a state of mind not so much what we are allowed to do. Roosevelt said that one major key to freedom is to get rid of gangster rule which would be a good example of oppression through fear. I wish we could just take a few years as a world and agree to peace and use the funds we would be putting toward war and put them into stuff like space exploration or ways to help our climate, I just think that that would also help with our relationships with other countries. Learned hand said that liberty is freedom. With this they also said that liberty is freedom to do what you want, liberty should give everyone a voice, and that with liberty we should feel prosperous and safe. When they said this it really made me think about how freedom is mainly a state of mind, if you are living in constant fear you are going to always feel like you are under control via fear. If we are also oppressed than we would never reach freedom. Nowadays I mostly see oppression in forms of social status and what is socially expectable, I have never personally experience oppression like racial or sexual preference but I have seen social quo be a form of oppression first hand.
