Strengths and weakneses in writing skills
My perception of writing development
Don’t take our word for it - see why 10 million students trust us with their essay needs.
If I could change the assignment I would make the requirements clearer in the assignment document in the checklist. Additionally, standardized scaling needs to be used, as some TA’s grade differently than other TA’s. The assignments have many unwritten expectations and requirements not only for content but also in formatting. These issues need to be addressed to not only minimize confusion amongst the students, but also to decrease the amount of time TA’s repeat themselves about these unwritten requirements.
These professionals insightfully designed a writing system that would establish consistent procedures for their writing purposes. The APA style continues to provide standardized formatting for the essentials in writing for grammar, mathematics and tables. Integrating research and correlating the findings into my writing assignments can present challenges. Close attention must be paid to the details of how each contributor’s citation and reference is formatted (Bethel University, 2014). A direct quote has different requirements than a paraphrased quote from a researched source.
Throughout the course of the year in Lit/Writing I have grown as a writer as I have learned how to write clear and concise thesis statements and select relevant evidence. One way in which my writing has improved is through the conciseness and clearness of my thesis statements, as I now incorporate more detail into my thesis, while keeping it unambiguous. In the short story summative assessment for “The Scarlet Ibis,” my thesis statement lacks a lot of information. It goes as follows, “In the short story ‘The Scarlet Ibis,’ James Hurst uses indirect characterization through the narrator to show that pride can override and take over one’s conscience.”
Determination is a significant part in people’s lives. Peter Jackson shows lots of examples of this in the 2001 movie The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. Some examples are when Boromir was protecting Merry and Pippin, when Sam keeps his promise, and when Gandalf the Grey dies but everyone continue. When Boromir was shot with arrows in his torso he kept fighting. He could have just stopped fighting but he didn’t.
Why Comp I is So Valuable I believe that there are several reasons why Composition I is a valuable course for college students to take. Some of the reasons Comp I is so valuable are 1) it improves your writing skills, 2) it teaches us the different types of writing, and most importantly 3) it teaches us to manage our time wisely and effectively. Without the course Comp I, I believe that students wouldn’t be prepared or as prepared to take on the real world. Writing skills are something that most people don’t just have.
2. Similar to Rickert, Bunn also references other works in his writing. However, since Bunn cites others by using far more text, he uses black quotations. He uses these citations to explain his point and to show that other people have similar idea as Bunn. He states on the seventh page that he contacted his former students asking what suggestions they would give to new students learning to read like a writer.
How have I improved as a writer? I am thinking about my action plan as a writer have I improved, have I met the goals I set out to achieve on my first day of class, and what have I learned in this class? I will go over my time in this class and review the various topics I mentioned above and more. Looking back over my time in this class I will critique and praise myself. How I felt about writing when I first started this class compared to how I feel now, I would have to say I am more comfortable with writing.
This spring semester, I supposed all my writings had both several strengths and weaknesses. I found that one of my strengths was how I was easily able to
Both Didion and Murakami use writing as a form of expression. Their writing style has its differences but both writers believe writing is about expressing oneself. Both Murakami and Didion’s ideas are derived from their backgrounds. A notable similarity in their writing is the creative use of storytelling and metaphors. Why I Write by Joan Didion, brought me to conclusion that Didion used writing as a way to find herself.
Understanding Why I Write Different writers have their own opinion of why they write and what motives them to write. English novelist, essayist, journalist and critic, George Orwell writes an essay on why he writes. Explaining his four motives. Orwell believes those four motives are sheer egoism, aesthetic enthusiasm, historical impulse, and political purpose. Throughout his essay called, Why I Write, Orwell uses different strategies to get to his audience such as, persona, diction, cumulative sentences.
Before taking writing skills two I 've had a positive mindset towards writing because I see it as a way to express my thoughts. For example, whenever I feel a bit melancholy writing a short story or just free writing always makes me feel a bit better. On the other hand, I don’t believe I’m the best writer because like every other student I make mistakes in my writing. Although, I don’t take the editing negatively I always look back at my past essay and try to reflect on them to see how I can always improve my writing skills. Overall, I have a pretty good mindset towards writing even though I have my mistakes I know if I study harder I can become a better writer over time.
Having the opportunity to write a variety of different essay styles has challenged me to improve my writing techniques even slightly. Having good credible sources was another technique I learned and improve. For most of my work, I used to go to Google, and just type whatever it is I was looking for, and usually I do not end up with that much great information. Now I start searching for information in databases because they are credible and more reliable.
My Writing Experience In previous courses, my writing skills have been mediocre or just enough to pass the class. Throughout the duration of this course, I have written a variety of papers using different techniques and skills. Previously I would write assuming that the only audience would be my instructor. This course has helped me realize that there are many steps and skills involved with writing a well-organized and easy to comprehend essay.
Major assignments -Work Projects- taught me how to write essays and include employed academic documentation (MLA). In this course, I’ve completed various reading assignments, did independent analytical thinking about what I’ve read, participate in discussions on what I’ve read, write about what I’ve read, and carry out research, this emphasis on reading was to show the importance of critical reading, and how it is going to benefit my studies. Understanding this academic essay structure, the use of rhetorical strategies in essay writing, writing a summary, formulating a thesis, and writing essays using rhetorical strategies. All these skills were the fruit of researching and
