2. Similar to Rickert, Bunn also references other works in his writing. However, since Bunn cites others by using far more text, he uses black quotations. He uses these citations to explain his point and to show that other people have similar idea as Bunn. He states on the seventh page that he contacted his former students asking what suggestions they would give to new students learning to read like a writer. Bunn’s advice from former students and his references from other scholars effectively support his claims because the best way to help someone is by using advice from qualified people, like former students and scholars.

Bunn uses a very engaging technique. This can be seen by his use of second person point of view. Along with this, Bunn writes various scenarios, examples, and questions that he expects the reader to participate in. He references other scholars and a few of his former students to support his claims. As I stated previously, his writing style is casual and direct which helps him to gain the reader’s attention better. To organize his ideas clearly, Bunn sometimes uses bullet points as well as headers to separate new concepts.
5. If I tried the same technique Bunn uses, I would have to be very careful. It can be difficult to come off as both casual and scholarly. Therefore, the biggest disadvantage to this technique is sounding too casual. The second person point of view writing style would be very useful and effective if my writing was about teaching or persuading someone about my ideas. Although this is an interview, I found that Bratton’s responses were quite formal. At times his responses were much more casual when trying he was explaining his ideas or thoughts, but his language was still professional. The questions James Taylor-Foster asked were very straightforward and relevant to Bratton through architecture and design. Foster also organized his questions well since his first question was about the history of AI. Bratton’s response to each question was very descriptive and logical.
