Thousands of years ago people believed there were gods for everything. Myths are about a traditional story, especially one concerning the early history of people or explaining some natural phenomenon and typically involving supernatural life or events. The purpose of a myth is to explain how things came to be and to teach important lessons and life values to us. In Mythology, by Edith Hamilton the book talks about the different gods and various myths relating to them from ancient times. He was the king of the Olympians and the God of Thunder. He also was the lord of the sky. He took down his father Cronus and all the Titans, thereby making himself king of the Olympians. The two myths that I am analyzing is about “Zeus (Jupiter)”(pg: 27), and “The Titans and the Twelve great Olympians” (Pg: 24). Zeus is the god of Thunder and the king of the skies and all the Olympians. In this myth, it talks about how he thinks he is the mightiest of all and challenges everyone to try him. It also talks about Hera the queen of the gods and the wife of Zeus. Zeus cheats on Hera. The following has been cited in the book “Mythology”, “ He is represented as falling in love with one woman after another and descended to all manner of tricks to hide his infidelity from his wife”. One of the quotes says “Zeus seduced many mortal woman including Leda in the guise of a swan, Europa as a bull, Danae as a shower of gold, Alkmene as her own husband, Kallisto (Callisto) as the goddess Artemis, and Antiope as a satyr.
