I get nervous to do acts of kindness because I am afraid that others will see it as annoying, nosey or intrusive. I often find myself inspired to serve someone but end up not following through because I am too busy thinking what I will be perceived as. I am motivated to serve because we are all brothers and sisters and we are all in this together.

As Bernie Sanders once said, “Health care must be recognized as a right, not a privilege.” Most developed countries choose to live by this quote while the United States of America chooses to go against it. Universal health care has benefits on multiple levels, whether it’s a single individual or the people in a whole. The U.S is one of the few developed countries that doesn’t offer universal health care to their people, yet the U.S spends more than seventeen percent of their GDP on health insurance. Many people believe that universal health care is a simple one solution problem, but the truth is that there are multiple forms of universal health care that provide all citizens with the health insurance they need.

Not fully understanding what I was getting myself into, I took a chance and applied because the paid-summer internship intrigued me. I was thrilled and surprised to find I had made it to the second stage- interviews, and even more amazed that I was accepted. Applying to PFF was one of the best decisions I made throughout my high school career. My ninth grade self would have never foreseen how many doors PFF would open up for me and how PFF aided me academic wise either.
The professional nursing values I believe are things you can be taught and some you cannot. Nurses are special individuals who ultimately want to care for and help others as much as they can. I agree with all of these values and believe some I will need to work on myself such as competence, illness prevention and patient education. Others I believe I have based on my experience I have already had while caring for others. Some of the qualities I believe I have include: caring, compassion, dependability, empathy, focusing on the patient- defining quality of life, having a holistic patient centered care, kindness, openness to learning, respect for others their dignity and worth and sensitivity.
