Animals on Animal Farm had wanted to be free from their owner, farmer Jones. The pig, Napoleon, comes to power as a dictator since the pigs are more intellectual than the other animals. Napoleon initially unifies with the rest of the animal’s, but soon decides to take matters into his own hands and disposes of Snowball and his proposals towards the farm. He takes advantage of the vulnerable animals so he can become in command. Napoleon is clever, brutal, and dictatorial to the animals.
Toward the beginning of Animal Farm every animal stood for the same thing: taking down Mr. Jones and kicking him off of the farm. Eventually, they accomplished this goal together, but soon Napoleon showed signs of separating himself from the other animals on the farm. A leader has incredible power, but with it he can choose to build up the community as a whole or to keep all the power to himself. Many leaders choose to keep all the power to themselves, but they still need a follower who believes every word the leader says. In George Orwell’s, Animal Farm, the animals decide to rebel against Farmer Jones, as they did not like the way they were treated. Life on the farm seemed promising after the rebellion, until Napoleon got greedy. Napoleon ran off any threats to his power and took away the other animals rights slowly, using his trusted followers, until he treated the other animals worse than Mr. Jones.
The animals start recognizing Napoleon for any good achievement done that day. For example, one of the hens recognizes Napoleon for just one stroke of good fortune. “Under the leadership of our Leader Comrade Napoleon, I have laid five eggs in six days…”(78). These poor animals are tricked into thinking that everything good that happens is due to “Comrade Napoleon's Leadership”. Every quote we see is a deeper level of corruption in Napoleon, and now, his influence on the farm is tearing what the revolution was all about.
He abused and threatened the animals because he probably saw what was needed to exercise continued control over the farm. If he gave the animals better treatment, they already are strong enough to defeat them but if they have enough energy just to do the given labor, then control will still remain strong. However, violence will be needed to enforce fear and make sure that work was done. This supports the claim because it shows how Napoleon violated one of the commandments, in order to better the overall economy. After all the evidence is considered, it seems that Napoleon is the better leader.
“Power is the ability to do something or act in a particular way, especially as a faculty or quality” (Google definition). A leader’s power can affect the well-being of the community and this power could be used in a good or a bad way such as dictatorship. In North Korea, Kim Jong-un abuses his power of being a leader by forcing brutal labor among the people of North Korea which has caused death and starvation. In the novel, Animal Farm, by George Orwell, Napoleon uses his power as a leader when he manipulate others, enforces hard labor, and benefits himself and the other pigs which all affect the other animals’ well beings.
Orwell’s novella Animal Farm shows how power gets to one’s head through dishonesty. Squealer demonstrates this by tricking the animals into doing many things that they are unaware of doing themselves. He uses propaganda to help Napoleon because it will give him access to power, which he, too, desires. Squealer is able to use their stupidity against them and make them do unreasonable things. He also gives Napoleon more publicity than he deserves, which leads to him being elected as leader.
In the final analysis, Napoleon is a worse leader than Jones due to his executing, starving the animals, and disobeying the commandments. Napoleon was inconsiderate for killing an incredible amount of animals and treating them like objects. Vowing to eliminate the terrible inequities of the farmyard, the renamed Animal Farm is organised to benefit all who walk on four legs. But as time passes, the ideals of the rebellion are corrupt, then forgotten. This is all due to the lust for power that the pigs Napoleon and Snowball have that made them all selfish and corrupted. Animal farm in context to The Russian Revolution in terms of corrupting influence of power : Orwell 's goal was to portray the Russian Revolution of 1917 and the early years of the Soviet Union that resulted in a more oppressive and deadly government than the one it overthrew.

You should care because Animal Farm by George Orwell isn’t just a story, it is a historical allegory. This means that we can look at the book just as a story or a representation of how a perfect society becomes corrupted by greed. The Animal Farm Revolution fails because Napoleon intimidates the animals, the animals no longer question authority, and because Napoleon starts to break commandments designed for all the animals to follow.
