Being one of twenty can be difficult but I learned to identify myself as Ayantu instead of just one of the Abdulwahab children. My parents are both from Ethiopia born and raised. When they met they both had a desire to raise a large family that would leave their mark on this world forever. Ethiopia is a great place but not the best place to raise a large family with a dream of success. They knew the only way to make this dream happen is to move to America, where dreams come true. My father left first with my older brothers and sisters to America and settle in. They had it easy because my father’s mother was already in America so bringing her son was easy. All seven of us were reunited and it felt so good. We lived in a shelter for the first few months upon arrival and to our surprise it was not bad at all. They had everything we could possibly ever need and we even got presents for Christmas, which was special because that was the first time we ever got presents. The transition from living at a shelter to doing everything on our own was difficult. Buying our first car was also challenging because we needed a car to fit at least nine of plus my mom was pregnant so it would actually need 10 seats. We ended buying one of those large conversion vans and that was perfect for a while until four or five years later when my mother got pregnant twice and had two babies. At this point there were 12 of us children and going places and doing stuff together became tedious and hopeless. Flash Forward ten plus years and the Abdulwahab family is complete with twenty. All my brothers are very sports inclined and great comedians. My sisters were track runners and comedians as well. I was the odd ball out of the twenty. I enjoyed playing sports but I wasn't any good at them and I believe that I am hilarious but then again everyone thinks they are hilarious so I just scratched that off my list.
