5am, every morning started off the same. Annie would wake up to small random movement going on in the hallway that went into the kitchen. She already knew it was her mother, there were times she felt exhausted and continued to sleep but there was also mornings where she accompanied her mother with a cup of coffee and talked. Today she decided to confront her and ask her why she was waking up early in the morning pacing back and forth in the hallway. “Mom, what are you doing up so early” said Annie. Annie knew it would only get more difficult and she would have to take care of her on her own and she questioned whether she would be able to handle it. Annie lived alone with Edith, Michael and Catherine only visited a few times a year and lived 8 hours away Annie was thinking about taking her to a nursing home. She knew that she would be taken care of and watched at all times. Annie knew that placing her into a nursing home would assure her safety. At the same time she didn't want to leave her mother. She wanted to spend every last moment with her, she didn't want Edith to forget every family member's names and the best memories that were created. A few weeks later, Edith was living in a nursing home not too far from Annie's house. Annie tried everyday to visit her, but it just wasn't the same.
