It was the start of a brand new school year. The students were busy in the corridors, finding their classes, learning new schedules, meeting new friends and discovering their way through the big middle school. There was almost 1000 7th and 8th grade students at the west coast Florida school. It didn’t take long to find the group of girls who were considered as the popular in-crowd. Their table was the most crowded at lunch and they always had a group of boys and girls around them. Emily just wanted to be invisible. She was so embarrassed that he face was as red as a ripe tomato. Emily no longer wanted to come to school, she told her parents that she was sick and often wanted to stay home. Things were missing out of her locker, her textbooks were knocked out of her hand and her backpack knocked off her shoulder. Brittany’s friend started joining her in making the girls feel uncomfortable and scared to really come to school. The teachers noticed and started asking questions and called Coralyn and Emily’s parents. The teachers contacted the principal and a meeting was scheduled with the each girl and their parents. After all the meetings were held and conferences with parents, teachers, students, and the principal, it determined that Brittany was harassing and bullying the two girls. She received a suspension from school and was no longer allowed to represent Brooklyn Middle School as a cheerleader. The principal congratulated Emily and Coralyn on being as brave as a lion for standing up to Brittany. She wasn’t as popular as she used to be and she lost friends as she was considered a bully.
