Many writers seem to write just to write, but isn’t there a meaning in all writing. Rather to persuade, to teach, or to argue a topic. There is no such writing that is just writing. Most writing is to make the reader feel connected and to be a part of the story. Writers want the reader to feel connected to the story because if there no connection then there is no story.
The chapter on "Arguments" in The Little Gator Handbook with exercises by Bullock, Brody and Weinberg gives a breakdown of the primary keys for arguing a position and putting that argument to paper. The authors maintain that to have an acceptable argument, it should be indubitable what is trying to be conveyed, there should be some support for the position you are taking, it should have a noble aspect to enforce the fairness of your argument, and a fair rationalism supported by data which also takes into account the other position. In addition, the authors also propose suggestions for writing an argumentative essay. Throughout this chapter Bullock et al. offer various suggestions for selecting a topic, kindling that topic into further ideas,
Chapter 18 of Everyone’s An Author explained to the readers that it’s extremely important for us to use strategies for supporting our argument. Also, the strategies for supporting our argument helps us as a student with much of the writing we do in college because it serves us as useful tools for generating ideas. In order to do so, we should use example, description, humor, and classification as the convincing evidence to support our argument.
Another day was so much like the one before, and the many before that. He walked the house and grounds, slowly, letting time pass as it must. Alone, present but not present, for can one truly be there if no one knows of it? Like the saying he’d heard more than once over the unmeasured time of his existence: If a tree falls in the forest but no one is there to hear it, does it make a sound? He ambled through the back yard, pausing under the tree from which he’d been hanged, cursing his tormentors, vowing to haunt them for all time.
Flashback to my junior year. I sat quietly in my AP Lang class as my teacher, Mrs. Fisher, announced that the reading competition between the language arts classes called for the book count for September. She stood at the board, marker in hand, staring out expectantly at her large class. Hands shot up across the classroom, and my own nervous hand rose up to join them. Mrs. Fisher happily chalked up the small fortune of books that our class had read.
Having my high school at the AP program established under SCNU was always one of my luckiest things happened to me. At here, I was trained to be priorly familiar with the U.S. education system and successful after coming to the U.S. where all the students were supposed to go. In order to be prepared, I was trained to write different kinds of essays, including laboratory report, social science research paper and literature expository writing. I have started to write all these kinds of essays since grade 10, and every writing assignment has gone through the process of outlining, drafting, peer proofreading and editing. At college, my writing style hasn’t really changed, yet, the way I write an essay has changed.

In my argument essay, I tried to voice a strong opinion, but fell short. Although our process analysis essays and cover letters haven’t been graded yet, I believe that I portrayed a more confident tone and style in those than I did in my argument essay. While writing those particular essays, I focused more on meeting the requirements sufficiently and voicing my opinion effectively. I believe that gaining this kind of insight on essay-writing is a reflection of improvement in my writing skills and overall
Personal Literacy Narrative Reading and writing is a tool everybody needs in their lifetime the basic reading and writing skills are used on a daily base no matter what field you plan to study. Reading and writing are taught at a young age. I personally was taught by preschool I noticed on how I grew with my writing and how I became a better reader and writer throughout my life I personal love reading and writing it’s a way for everyone to express themselves through their choice of words. The temptation of power and control has caused destruction since the beginning of time. From Adam and Eve’s choice to eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil to Hitler’s massive genocide, it seems as though humanity cannot evade a fascination with personal status and authority. In The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R. Tolkien, the ring’s control over characters is a reflection of humanity’s innate craving for power. While most of the characters do not comprehend the ring’s tremendous power at first, Gandalf quickly realizes that the ring has a great influence on both those who obtain it and those who are aware of it. He says, “It is far more powerful than I ever dared to think at first, so powerful that in the end it would utterly overcome anyone of mortal race who possessed it.
The moon was the only witness, along with the stars. They were the only ones that would know, and they wouldn 't tell. The ground was moist from the rain that had come early in the morning, and by the fog that stayed since then. The shovel scraping against stray rocks in the ground was too loud, and I feared that someone would hear. The hole in the ground looked like a bottomless pit, where no one would ever find a body.
My feelings toward writing aren 't good nor bad. Writing is something i have had difficulty with in my past. I have no problem brainstorming ideas on what topics to write my assignments on, even if i am given a prompt, but I do have difficulty with sitting down and planning my work. I always find myself getting stuck. So I almost never take the time out to plan out my ideas i come up with.
Writing is a vital part of life. Before the creation of written language human communication was limited to verbal, in-person conversations. Everything changed when writing allowed thoughts and ideas to travel farther and more efficient than ever before. Writing is a talent that we learn at an early age and only hone as we proceed through our academic careers. This being said, as with any talent every writer has strengths and weaknesses.
I believe that I have learned many useful lessons this semester. At the start of this semester I honestly did not know how to write a proper essay. There were several big problems with my writing style. My poor grammar and lack-luster writing skills were a real problem. I feel more confident now that I have written some decent papers and come close to completing my first English class.
Writing is not just about coming up with ideas and jotting them down on paper saying that it is your story because if it is then it is half done, and readers would not want to read what you have to say about how you feel on an experience that you have explored. Writing is about going through experiences and jotting those experiences down on paper and putting them in order so that the reader can understand what experiences you went through to get to the point that you have come to. Writing is a way to write you feel and to make it easy so that you do not have to speak what is on your mind. In my opinion writing can be my favorite thing to do because I like to write but when it comes to me speaking, I get nervous and do not know what to say when I get in front of a crowd. Writing can also be a way to get out of things such as if you want to break up with someone, tell your parents something that is bad that you do not want to tell them in person, talk to a doctor in a message just in case if your friends are
