Company Business Nasty Gal is an American retailer, headquartered in LA that specializes in fashion for young women. Founded in 2006, the company now has over 550,000 customers in over 60 countries. The company was born as an eBay store up-selling vintage fashion that was sourced at secondhand stores. Now, Nasty Gal has expanded into a larger scale, trendy fashion retailer for women. It owns and operates several warehouses and distribution centers. While the company grew fast in its early stages and even opened brick and mortar stores, in 2016 competitors such Zara, Forever21, and H&M made it difficult to stay afloat. The company was forced to close down its stores, and ultimately filed for bankruptcy. It was then bought in 2017 by a British online retailer called Boohoo Group. The store was called Nasty Gal Vintage. Amoruso would source vintage fashion pieces at secondhand stores and resell them on her store for many times the price she bought it. In the early days of the business, Amoruso handled all sourcing of merchandise, photographing, product description writing, and would even communicate with customers through MySpace. By 2008, Amoruso created her own site nastygal.com, no longer affiliated with eBay, and by 2009 the company moved into its first warehouse space in Berkeley, CA. In 2010, Nasty Gal moved to its current LA headquarters. In early 2012 the company raised $9 million dollars in private funding from Index Ventures and by August, 2012 another $40 million. At this point, the company employed 110 people and opened an additional distribution center in Shepherdsville, Kentucky.
