The infamous you’re showing “too much shoulders”, “It’s too short”, “That’s too much skin”, “That’s why you look scandalous”. By the age 16, 90% of women are sexually harassed from a cat call to a slap on the ass. Due to the sexualization of women beginning with clothing it has become a way for men or others to justify rape culture. Leading to women believing they are seen as objects. Unjustly, all around schools, social locations, government buildings, even in your own home sexualization may occur. Women are depicted as degrading which is harmful due to the perceived image certain clothes pose on a woman's body. Depending if one is short, skinny, or tall it “determines” how clothing “suits” your body. First and foremost, every woman is entitled to their own body portrayal. For they may know what’s comfortable, fits, or is appropriate in their eyes for THEIR body. Confidence and expression versus trying too hard by seeking attention are two very different impressions. Women aren't necessarily seeking but if a women were to wear a tight dress revealing her curvy figure, it is associated she is vulgar, slutty, attention-seeking, and ultimately sexualized as she specifically “seeks male attention”. This leads to the justification for rape culture as the attacker claims “they asked for it.” In another light dress codes in school systems are sexist- they do not teach boys to stop sexualizing women especially by their clothes. Females are limited to showing skin considering it is distracting since “boys will be boys.” It is unfair as young men are not considered of having tougher regulations.
