The National Beta Club is an organization that promotes multiple attributes that are required for a successful future. These qualities are listed in the mission statement as the following: achievement, character, leadership, and service. Each of these characteristics has been ingrained in my personality as I have participated in Beta over the past four years, and I believe that I am more prepared to take on future endeavors because of it. First, I never would have been selected for Beta Club if it were not for the sense of achievement I already had. I have never been one to slack off at anything I am involved with, whether it be school or extracurricular activities. Yet, Beta has increased my thirst for achievement by ten-fold. No one can have true happiness without first having good character. As a member of Beta, my character has developed in many ways. This program has not only empowered me to care about academics, but also community improvement. It started when I was working on gaining more Beta points and I discovered that I could do volunteer work in order to do so. I was then prompted to begin volunteering at the local Boys and Girls Club. Little did I know that this would have a great effect on my life and character. After volunteering for most of that school year, I wanted to work there. The kids brightened the atmosphere around me, and each time I helped them, I knew I was doing something right. Therefore, I sent in a job application and I have now been employed there since August. I never would have had the opportunity to have a job that builds my character every day if it were not for Beta, and I am thankful for that. I can now say that I have laid my foundation for worthwhile
