The National Honor Society is known for recognizing students with commendable character, dependable leadership and civic involvement. Membership in the National Honor Society is something I have been looking forward to since the beginning of high school and I am now privileged to be among the meritorious students being considered for this organization. I hold a high standard for myself, and as a new member of the National Honor Society, I would help my fellow classmates reach their full potential.
Character is a difficult word to define. Honesty, loyalty, reliability, responsibility, integrity, and a positive attitude are just a few traits found in high-character students and each is vital in representing the standards of this organization. Character should not only be important to National Honors Society members, but it should be important to everyone. I am a goal-setter and I often meet even my loftiest goals through hard-work, reliability and being well-organized. All of these traits help me attain the academic excellence I have achieved. I am currently a student helper in the special education program at Central Dauphin. Working with my special needs classmates is not only something I enjoy, but it creates a bridge between our two cultures within the school making everyone feel part of something. I have also participated in the Red Cross Christmas Cards for Soldiers and the Ronald McDonald House Blanket Drive. During these activities, groups of people gather together to make home-made cards and blankets for soldiers and those in need. Civic responsibility should expand beyond the borders of our school and into our community and I strive to help those in need whenever possible. Participating in activities within my school as well as in my community is something I will continue to do as a part of the National Honor
