I sometimes close my eyes and think back to all the times in my life where I achieved a goal that I didn’t think was possible: from my first bike ride, to my first time on horseback; from performing in my first dance recital, to competing in my first rodeo; from getting chosen to perform that ballet solo, to being elected class officer; from earning that A in my first college class, to being inducted into the National Honor Society. When I take a moment and remember all the successes that shaped the person I am today, I cannot imagine reaching any of these achievements without the people who helped me along the way.

The positive, honest, respectful, and sincere connections I cultivated with my family, my peers, my teachers, and others in my community helped me to build strong relationships that make up my support system. These are the people who held my bike, helped me up in the saddle for my first ride, filled me with enough grace and courage to get up on that stage and to ride out into that arena, they were always in the front row cheering me on and were my biggest fans, and they were the people who pushed me to study harder and reach higher to achieve my dreams. I was fortunate to have a strong and loving family support system and a nurturing community that came together for my benefit. Whether it is through mentoring, tutoring or volunteering with youth events, I strive to provide the same support for the younger members of my family and community. I believe there is truth in the saying that children learn what they live, and I see it every time I work with young children. Therefore, it is my goal to someday be the kind of positive and influential role model for children that I was blessed with. I was raised to believe that you don’t make decisions in life based just on what you want to do, but rather on how you can help others and better the world around you. It is that belief, along with the supportive environment I was blessed with, that have shaped my future college and career
