Holding a leadership role for such a motivated group of students
Within the novel, “The Outsiders”, written by S.E Hinton, it conveys the rivalry between the two gangs, the Socs and the Greasers. They constantly encounter conflict since the Socs are wealthy, living on the West side of town unlike the Greasers who are lower class, living on the opposite side of town. Each gang consists of multiple members, however, for the Greasers, particularly one member stands out from the crowd, Sodapop. His personality reveals that he is someone who endlessly provides comfort while keeping the peace but still maintaining a happy-go-lucky attitude.

Through the National Student Leadership Conference, I will be marching out of my comfort zone and learning qualities that will aid me in becoming a better leader. In my school there are numerous leadership opportunities, from being class president, to being a house captain, to planning a school wide event.
It is an honor to be selected to apply to the National Honor Society. One of the values that the National Honor Society has is leadership. To be a leader, one needs to be flexible, have strong communication skills, courage, responsibility, and must be tough-minded, but fair. Over the summer I worked at an adventure ropes course in Kittery, Maine. Our staff is based on two values, teamwork and leadership.
A leader is able to gain an audience’s attention because of their personality, morality, and how they hold themself. It is important for a leader to be organized, compassionate, able to compromise but also be firm on what they believe, and be a person who people look up to and aspire to be. I was part of an organization called National Charity League and this organization helped grow women’s confidence, public speaking skills, time management, and organizational skills. Each month, each class holds meetings to plan and discuss projects that follow the class’s focuses. This past year Class of 2023 philanthropic focus is children, cultural focus is international food, and for leadership we are focusing on self care and reflecting on the NCL experience.
Being a part of the Nation Ford Marching band and allocating a great deal of time to an activity played a large role in my growing leadership capabilities. During the first semester of my sophomore year, I was selected to become a mentor for the freshman class of 2026. After previously participating in drum major workshops to support my interest in becoming a stronger leader, I was able to apply the lessons I learned to a real environment. Having the privilege of being a mentor for my section allowed me to gain more confidence by helping others. I found myself enjoying the long, scorching practices because I was happy to be aiding the growth of others- those that needed the confidence I needed during my first year of marching band.
By taking on leadership roles such as being president of environmental club and public relations of class council, I am a mentor to others all while sharing the same interests and providing opportunities for them to build their own character. Prior to this school year, I was fortunate enough to attend a weeklong event called Rotary Youth Leadership Awards, where I lived there for a week surrounded by young leaders from all over south jersey. In this experience, I learned that being a leader means being understanding of others and their situations. With this experience I was able to bring back what I learned to my own communities like environmental club. Not only do I have to be organize and communicative, but I also have to be a role model to members of a club by showing my own good character.
In my time as a martial artist, I have led students to perfect their skills. Although I could not participate in the student council this year, next year I hope I will have the opportunity. My leadership skills have grown significantly since the start of my education, and they grow every
I have shown leadership by being a Sunday School assistant at Reading United Methodist Church. I worked with the younger kids and taught them various life lessons. I also practiced my leadership by being an assistant for the kindergarteners during the K-Ball program. I taught them the basics of basketball and other lessons they will be able to apply in their futures. I am hoping to further develop my leadership skills during the next two years of high school, which will help me lead others more successfully.
The Leader in Me teaches students 21st century leadership and life skills and creates a culture of student empowerment based on the idea that every child can be a leader (FranklinCovey, 2009). The program has created 7 habits that promote a positive learning environment. The program is also aligned to several national and state academic standards. The program is designed to teach students about life skills such as responsibility, accountability, leadership and initiative. The learning environment is designed to be student-led.
I have been blessed with many great opportunities in the past three years to serve and increase my leadership skills. I have played soccer for my high school, and was voted Team Captain of the varsity team by my teammates. I absolutely loved growing closer to each one of those girls, and being an example to them both on and off of the field. In high school, I have balanced my membership in eight different clubs.
With each new generation of young adults completing their high school education and preparing to enter college or the workforce, there comes unique challenges in beginning their lives in the adult world and setting off on the path to pursuing their future. Among the issues facing emerging adults today are an extremely competitive job market, lack of adequate preparation for college or meaningful vocational skills training, and an increasing sense of being mentally and emotionally unprepared for the challenges of post-secondary education and pursuit of a career. Young adults today are finding that they lack the necessary skills to adequately navigate their way successfully through college and onto successful careers and adult responsibilities. Most importantly, since the contents of this course are largely different from what I have learned in my major courses. I regard this as a rare opportunity for me to take on some new challenges, and I would like to take a chance to develop my leadership skills. Before attending this course, “leadership” is a word quite far away from me, and I only have some basic understandings of it. And I found out that most of my thoughts I had about leadership are very different from what it really is.
