Did you know that there are 2,128 Native American mascots in the world that people are not discussing? Recently, more and more people are becoming aware of Native American mascots because there is a debate surging with respect to that field. For many years there has been controversy about banning Native American mascots and names. Native American mascots and names should be banned from sports. First of all, it is very disrespectful to the Native American tribe. Secondly, the name could conceivably have some sort of negative meaning behind it. Finally, there is racial prejudiced towards the American Indian tribes. To begin, it is blasphemous to the Native American tribe if you use their name or a mascot representing them. Some school 's team mascot names have a history behind their name and the term means something distasteful. For example, in the Ute article it states “The Redskins term refers to a time in history when the king of England called for the scalping of Indians as proof of bounty.” Lots of Indigenous people refuse to say the term “Redskins” because it means the same thing as the N-word. This shows that it has a negative nuance for the Native community and it means something atrocious. Finally, there is a lot of racism towards the Indigenous Peoples tribes. First, the Ute article states that, “It is a complete lack of appreciation for cultural diversity.” This is saying that nobody appreciates that there are other cultures or ethnic groups within our society. Second, it is one thing to respect the tribe 's tradition, but to cover a white guys face with paint and ride an Appaloosa to the middle of the field is another.
