Depending on the research you are conducting these methods of measurement can either guide you to great discovery the pro, or skew your data making it unreliable the con. Observational measure is the method of measuring behaviors by directly observing subjects (Leary, M. R. (2011).

Chris McCandless, Into the Wild, and Avoidance Behavior By: Emma Bruhl Prompt Two: “Avoidance is a part of life” (PsychCentral), it is a human's response to pain. This basic element of human response is demonstrated by the character of Christopher McCandless in the novel entitled Into the Wild written by journalist Jon Krakauer. Krakauer’s story follows the cross-country venture of post collegiate McCandless in his journey to find his identity and freedom as he disappears from his family and what he views as societal constraints. Krakauer reflects on the journal kept by Chris outlying key aspects of his journey and important characters he meets along the way.

A naturalistic observation usually focuses on a larger group of individuals in a natural environment. A survey is used to ask a larger group of individuals’ questions about attitudes and behavior.
On October 12, 1998, in Colorado, USA, 21-year old Matthew Shepard was brutally murdered by Aaron McKinney and Russell Henderson. Shepard was born in Casper, Wyoming in 1976. He spent most of his elementary, middle and most of his high school years in Wyoming until he moved to Saudi Arabia with his parents in 1994*. While attending the American School in Switzerland, on February 1995, Shepard was beaten and raped during a high school trip to Morocco by 4 males*. People have contended that his body stature (5’2,100 pounds), might have been a considerable characteristic of what made him a vulnerable target to others*.

For example under appropriate conditions, you can observe the amount of people who naturally order healthy food verses unhealthy food. Naturalistic observation are good only if you take the time to observe people in their natural environments.

How does one’s socialization create tension between their connection with nature and civilization? In The Call of the Wild, Jack London has the protagonist, Buck, change from living like a king to living in the wild. When Buck’s environment is altered he goes from being kind and optimistic to on-guard and connected with his canine ancestors. This is the battle between succumbing to one’s nature or adhering to the rules of civilization, and London clearly demonstrates his stance. London magnifies how nature is all consuming and, in the end, everything will eventually be captivated by it.

The three descriptive research methods that I will discuss are Naturalistic Observation, Survey, and Case Study. Naturalistic Observation is a research method in which people or animals are observed in their natural habitat without any controls or variables. This type of research method may be conducted if you want to see how people truly act without being watched. For example, this research method may be used to determine who are healthier shoppers, men or women? The researcher would go to a food store and take count throughout the day of how many men and women he finds in the fruit and vegetable isles, and how many he find in the snack isles.
The topic of this assignment is to discuss and analyse what factors affect human behavior and in doing so how human behavior is shaped. But before discussing that, it is important to understand what human behavior is. To define it in a few sentences or words would not be sufficient as human behavior consists of many factors and therefore contributes majorly to who we are as a person. But to put it simply, it is defined as all actions and emotions that an individual portrays in response to the different kinds of stimuli they receive no matter whether these responses are conscious or subconscious and voluntary or involuntary (Merriam-webster.com, 2015).
